These Textbooks are absolutely horrible as a means to teach English. There are so many things wrong with not just the text books themselves but the PC Programs that go along with the text. And they wonder why they can't speak English well. It's so frustrating teaching from these books. Obviously written by a Korean and not a native speaker. So frustrating!  >:( >:(

I'm actually finding this site extremely confusing regarding where to post and if the attachment on my previous post even works. I can't see it anywhere in the post but thinking maybe because I have not posted five things yet? Will be grateful to anyone that can let me know if its there or not.

Yup they're there! This page where you posted now is like the "front" page of all the JL Haas books.  At the top (the first post by Sheila) is the indexes - all of the topics for all three grade levels. So if you have a general question, like "How can I access the website", you post in on this "front page".  If you're posting lessons, then find the topic in which it goes in the index list, ex. grade 2, lesson 7, Enjoying art, and post it there.  Hope this makes sense!  Your lessons (attachments) should show now because you have 5 posts :)

Here is my powerpoint and worksheet for Lesson 7 teaching opening hours, admission etc.  The worksheet forces the students to use English, but it is necessary to coax the students into speaking with each other.  Justin Bieber helps the girls learn. They like him.

To really hammer home what admission is, you can flash some won, or in my case some Monopoly money.  These are both satisfactory tools to teach this lesson.  The real meat of the lesson is at the end when either by themselves (for advanced classes) or in pairs they are to think of their own location (museum, zoo, aquarium, amusement park etc.) and make a poster including the opening hours, the days it is open and the admission.  In the next class, they can finish the posters (on 8.5' by 11' construction paper) and then you have the students circulate the class pretending they want to go to each place and using the key phrases they have learned.

I hope this is useful to someone or they can turn both into something better.

I have taught in Korea for three years and always made my own material, but now I can save time.  Thanks for posting this lesson.  I have to teach in 30 minutes, a surprise it was, but anyway.... thanks

Here is a presentation I have put together.  It's fairly basic as my students are mixed and so I wanted to try and aim it for the most.  Unfortunately if you have really bright students then they might find this a little to easy.  Also it is only my second week at this school and have noticed their level to be considerably lower than my last.

Anyway, the presentation starts of with a Chinese Whispers game.  I haven't provided the words/sentences, I'm sure that's easy to come up with.  I've followed that with a brainstorming exercise which I did on the board.
Then I brought in the focus sentence and drilled a few students.
This was followed by a game where the students pick a number which leads to a different picture.  They then ask there friend "would you like some pizza", the other student answers and then chooses her own number and so the game goes.  Very simple.
After that I wanted the students to practice with a partner and see if they could memorise the sentence.

Let me know if it worked or not...

Hi everyone,

I have to do a special class where I will be teaching 2 schools at the same time through a video link.

It's some sort of special thing for the education board.

Anyway, it will be grade 2 middle school and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of topics I could do.

It can be anything.

The problem I'm facing is that one of the schools is my own and the other is a random one. I know the level for my class (which is pretty good), but I don't want to make a lesson that the other school will not understand.

Any help, tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Wow, these are really good resources for this book. Although, I have to say that this book is pretty terrible. The theme has barely anything to do with the expressions, and there's no straightforward place at the beginning or end of each chapter where you can find the exact vocabulary or key expressions on one page.

I have made a crossword based around a conversation. This covers most of the "core" phrases in the book, and would be a great after finals lesson.

Thank you so much for making this thread. This is my my first time tecahing in Korea. I'm tecahing middle school and my school uses these books extensively. This is only my second week of teaching so being able to share ideas with other teachers relevant to book has proven very helpful for me. I look forward to adding to this thread and coming up with new ideas.
