J.L. Haas' Middle School English 1, 2, & 3 Index
« on: March 03, 2011, 02:18:17 pm »
Here are the links to the lessons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the Middle School English books published by 두산동아 with Johanna L. Haas as one of the writers/editors. Here is the website available for this book series as well. http://textbook.doosandonga.com/main.jsp# There are teacher's guides available for each of these books. However, they are all in Korean, so it's best to consult your co-teacher if you're unsure of something. When going through the interactive program, you will notice there are Korean directions. Simply click the [ENG] button and the directions are all translated.  This is especially helpful for the communication task if you can't guess solely looking at the book. http://textbook.doosandonga.com/pds/pdsDerive.donga This is a link to the website and it has all of the stuff for each lesson written up in English if you press the download button. Just click 영어 (김성근) and the grade level.

On the bottom of this post, there are two attachments: one with instructions on how to use the program with the DVD/CD-ROM (or whatever it is), the second being a possible layout for your lessons.  Use what you will... it's only a suggestion. *Update* I just added a semester lesson plan example for each grade for first semester. Just as an example... follow the advice and timeline of your co-teachers and school calendar.

To access each lesson, click on the lesson name (in blue) and it will direct you to the link.  Please do not post lesson plans on the bottom of this thread, it makes it harder to find them in the future.  Please remember to check all materials posted for punctuation and spelling errors before posting.

The webpage for the book is really useful if someone knows how to find it (I've seen my Korean teachers using it).  Can anyone help navigate to the lesson plan area for each book's index?

The webpage information is at the top of this forum. Just putting the finishing touches on this and adding the rest of the third grade books.  Thanks for being patient and waiting for me to get it all sorted out.  If something isn't linked correctly, please let me know and I'll try to get it taken care of right away.  Enjoy~!

Not gonna lie, many thanks to you bmsteacher. Without your links on the previous thread, it would have taken me forever to find all of the 1st and 2nd grade things. Thanks A LOT~!  :-*

Thanks :D I saw that link, but I'm trying to figure out how to navigate from the link you posted to these pages: http://textbook.doosandonga.com/update/mid_enkim2/ETBookBase.htm .  (I was only given the 2nd grade site, and can't figure out how to get to the others.)

Okay, so from the website at the top of the page, it is the main website.  There is a blue circle with a book on it in the middle of the homepage that says 새로나온 교과서 보기.  Click on that icon and it will bring you to the main elementary page.  To go to the middle school level page, under the heading 'Text Book' click on the icon for 중학교 교과서.  On that first page, you will see the 1st grade leveled curriculum, including our book.  To change to a different grade, go to the tool bar in the middle of the page and click on either 2학년 or 3학년. In order to use the functions by each book, you must log in, which can be found on the main page. I've tried to navigate my way through signing up and logging in but I can't figure it out.  When I tried to put in my ARC number, it said something unrecognizable in Korean and sent me back to the login screen.  May be worth looking at with a co-teacher to see what all is available. Then you may be able to access the other programs like the one you have the link for.

Did you get a DVD of this? My co-teachers just got their's in yesterday for the third grade book, but last year they just loaded it onto my computer and saved it so I didn't need their DVD everyday.  If you see your co-teacher with it on her computer, have her bring in the CD/DVD set for you.  Until then, I'll see if I can get the files for mine to save on here. No guarantees though~ right now just in trying, I can't because the file types are different and they're way to big with this program.

Hey guys, I've made a user guide and an example lesson for you to check out.  Some may find it useful... others not. But I just thought I would put it up here for those that are new and clueless as to where to go for their first couple of weeks. It took me a long time to learn to use the program effectively without any help, so this might be a good resource for those of you who really want to make the most of it. Enjoy~!

Can anyone recommend an English workbook/activity book (photo-copyable) that they have found useful in combination with Haas' Middle School English books?

The level of my students is very low and working only from the text and activity books makes them fall asleep. They love games but unfortunately we can't do that all period. I can make my own crosswords and wordsearches easy enough, but I want other activities.

My school has a budget to purchase supplementary materials but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any direction is much appreciated.

This is not related to any of the lesson plans from the books of J.L Haas, but seeing as Im also teaching middle school and using those books, I am posting some ppt lessons I have done that can be used in a sticky situation when you dont have anything else planned. Summer/winter camps, random one lesson situations.
when in Rome.. Die eind resultaat moet die moeite werd wees!

Hi guys, just arrived in Korea 2 weeks ago and have started teaching grades 1 and 2 at a middle school in Chuncheon. I am using this text book and just wanted to say that this thread is such an amazing tool!! Have started looking at the textbook so will put together some worksheets and PPT's of my own and for you guys to share!
