Grade 1: Lesson 6: Art is cool. Here's the worksheet and PowerPoint I made to teach the phone call dialogue. All cradit goes to my friend Mike for the game at the end 'Call the K-pop Star"...the students really enjoyed this one.

I teach 1st grade and my co-teacher has decided that Chapter 4 Dialog 2 is the best dialog for our open class. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do with this dialog. Its very simple and only 2 lines. I am not sure what she has in mind or why she picked this dialog. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This must have been the most challenging assignment that I have had to date, trying to figure out how to stretch the usage of 'why? because...' into a 45 minute period. Anyhow, I have just completed the speak out section for Grade 1, Lesson 3 (Why? Because...) and I have uploaded them through my website (http://www.cocoinkorea.com> Teacher Materials).

I hope that you find them useful/helpful and I want to thank everyone who has given my positive feedback on my previous lessons.

Have a great day!

Hey Cocoinkorea, I haven't taught the grade 1 textbook, but I find that if the 'speaking out' is a bit too basic I just teach both dialogues in one lesson. This gives me an extra class to teach my own, non textbook based, lesson. Did your co-teachers tell you that you have to teach from the text only?

Hello,

I was told only to do the Speak Out sections covering 3 class periods. Unfortunately that means that I have a total of 135 minutes to cover 1 page. That's a lot of time, so I break it up and add extra materials for each section.

Wow, having to stretch one page over 135 minutes! That's killer. Good luck!

Hey jamespstyles
I love prezis and use them myself from time to time (I need to use them more frequently).
I used the link you provided below ... so how does this work?  We can share presentations?
I'm totally interested in any lesson help ... especially grade 3 (these lessons just get worse
and worse)

Hey all, I have planned my lessons and use an internet program called prezi, I would strongly recommend you take a look - it's like power point, but free, online and I find it is much more engaging that power point. This is partly because power point can be overused and can become monotonous where as prezi looks interesting.

I am happy to share my lesson / presentations with anyone who wants them. I use drop box to store them, if you'd like just get drop box, and I will share my folders so you can Sync my files online. If you use the following link I benefit from getting slightly more storage space, you will benefit from my lessons!

Grade 3 lesson 3  - Do you remember? I adapted an existing Power Point (sorry can't remember whose) and also stole the idea about the Jack Johnson song - the students really liked this song and the video on the You Tube link is great! I asked them the question "what does he remember watching?" to try and focus their listening a bit.

Power Point for Grade 2 lesson 3 - What does that mean? I used the word 'idiom' and with the examples of window/eye shopping (from listening activity A in the textbook) I got the meaning across.

Grade 2 Lesson 3 Power Point for 'Sorry but that's not right'.

My lower lever students couldn't put the sentences together as the example is the Mozart/where was he born one. So I got them to practice each example individually using the sentences on the Power Point to help them reply.

For the higher level students, I got them into pairs and gave them 4 statements each to read to each other and practice the dialogue. The higher levels were OK with this! Will post the statements sheet next - I managed to get 4 onto one page to save on paper - just need some scissors!! I handed the slips of paper out while the students were writing down the other ways to say "Sorry but that's not right".

Carrots are my favorite fruit.

Grade 2 lesson 3... Speaking game I got from orientation last year, fits in perfectly with this lesson.

Few ways to play this game but most simple is in teams of 4, with students taking it in turns to read statements on the grey part of the card, other students shout "sorry but thats not right" correct the sentence and take the card, student with most cards wins.

This my mid level set of cards, cant find high or low on my computer.

I'm making my 8th grade, lesson 3 all about idioms. There are eight or so from the book that I will focus on, and next week maybe a class based on "Hit the Road, Jack". I'll post my materials when they're finished,

In the mean time, here's a list of Waygook threads about idioms. There's tons of great stuff and I want to remind everyone about Waygook's great search feature.

A small request to people who post amazing materials (and that's all of you. I haven't seen a file yet that I couldn't take something from!) - please make more descriptive names, especially if your file matches a certain grade or textbook chapter. There are a ton of files just called "idioms.ppt". It's really easy for these files to slip through the cracks.

And to the Moderators - do you combine threads? A lot of these links are single posts that would probably be happier together. I'd do it myself if someone taught me how and trusted me enough to make the changes. I'm a little obsessive-compulsive, so sorting threads sounds fun.

Here is a Power Point for Grade 3 lesson 3 'I'm glad to hear that'.

I tried to introduce other ways to say this sentence and then got the kids to practice the textbook dialogue using these different responses.

Hey jellybean,

the attachment for this post does not match the description. the ppt attached "Grade 3 PPT I remember.ppt " is the same basic file as the one in your next post.

was interested in your "glad to hear that" ppt but it isn't here.

thanks!

Here is the Grade 3 Lesson 3 "I'm glad to hear that" Power Point (I attached the wrong one in error yesterday - thanks for pointing this out!)

It's a basic Power Point to introduce other ways to say this sentence and to get them practising the textbook dialogue.

I combined both of lachlanmccann's fantastic PPTs into one with a bit minamteacher twist. This lesson now covers BOTH dialogues and is a bit more appropriate for boys (I teach at a boys middle school). Also, I added the memory game to the end of the lesson.

P.S. currently editing my Grade2Lesson2 ppt from last year. I used this same book last year, but my older PPT's need a bit of a tune up.

Hey Siamagoo,

I understand what you mean and I will try my best to make a more descriptive file name. Also, I was teaching an idioms lesson for both grade 2's and 3's which was originally posted by Green Floyd (I changed the dialogues and added another idiom) http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,4089.0.html . He did a great job with his lesson, so I highly suggest you check it out!

Here's my lesson plan, ppt, and materials for Grade 8, Lesson 3. I focused only on idioms.

I'm going to try prefixing all my uploads with CZY. That way if people like my work they can look for a CZY in the file name, and if they don't like my work they can target it for deletion that much more easily.

"CZY" is now the unregistered trademark of all my ESL materials.

As promised, Grade 2 Lesson 3. This lesson covers both key expressions "sorry, but that's not right," and "what does that mean?" This was a lesson I taught last year, but I changed it around to make it more appealing and interesting. I don't have any specific game in mind, but I might whip one up tomorrow.

Also, I will now add MT (Minamteacher) to all of my PPT.

EDIT: I changed my power point to make an activity in the middle because my students have been flagging (the key sentences are very easy). The students have to respond with either 'that's right,' or 'sorry, but that's not right,' and provide the correct answer depending on the picture prompt. Also, the process is explained clearly in the ppt.

This is my first upload (of hopefully many more) -
Thanks to all who have shared the wealth! These PPTs
are pulled from this and that person. (sorry I don't have
direct references) So thanks to the donors!
*please note* that my school is very strict on lessons and lesson planning and
what they want. They want exactly the speak out part only taught in 2 classes.
So my ppts are always divided into the first part of the page then the second.

For Grade 3 Lesson 3 - Unit 2 Glad to hear that ... I decided to go with a simple lesson of
a conversation circle and maybe time the circle where students have to think of something
that they feel good or bad about and the student next to them has to respond 'i'm glad
to hear that' or 'i'm sorry to hear that'. Then maybe play the whisper game (telephone)

For Grade 2 Lesson3 Unit 2 - Idioms ... right now I have this long ppt with lots of pics
and lots of idioms (but i'm thinking it might be too hard-not sure)  I need some kind of fun
game for them. Any suggestions???  Plus at the end of the class I will show them 1
Kpop video and ask them to listen for any english sland/idiom .. and we will discuss it.

Not sure how it will turn out - I do these next week.

Good luck all -
sharing is caring.

(oh - and i've marked my ppts with the ending -ATH.

Hey, thanks for posting your ppts on here.  These books are not the greatest, but I think they do provide a good jumping board to make your own lessons.  I prefer to stay on track with the school's curriculum, but sometimes I just what to die of boredom. ^^
