Halloween lesson. Then we play 2 Halloween-themed games (pin the tail on the black cat and another one i still haven't come up with). I'm going to play halloween music in the background during the lesson as well.

Hate making lessons on a Sunday, wasted so much time last week, bahh..  heres some stuff for the polite request bit of chapter 10 for grades 1 and 2.

Bit of speaking practice around 20 minutes.. naughts and crosses type game,  then a Simpsons Halloween quiz type thing.. 25 minutes (hopefully).

Does anyone teach these lessons WITHOUT powerpoint?...
How do you teach the speak out dialogue without flashy technology?
Speaking for myself, very, very seldom; I'm struck by the number of Ss who can't see the board. I've even got a few kids sitting at the front who squint.   My English Lab is constructed with bulled shaped tables, so the kids face each other.  If during teaching time, I don't give them all something fun and colourful to look at (size 60 font), they'll chat with their easily visible friend  across the narrow table.

Most of my kids struggle mightily with English, if I give them a worksheet or pair work, their default position is "give up and chat." So I blow up my examples on the screen, and do humorous demos with "volunteers."

When my computer goes down I get the kids to open up their books, and we chorally read one of the lesson's stories together. Next, we play a game where I'll read and they'll follow along trying to catch and correct my intentional mistakes.

I much prefer to use my computer for whole class teaching. If it went down permanently, I'd probably bring mine from home.  My next plan is to graft Ss pics into my PPts to illustrate the dialogue parts.   In my experience PPT and Prezi help keep my class tracking together.

Grade 2:

I love your new dress. It's lovely!
Thanks. I'm glad you like it.
What do you do?
I am a vet.
Why did you choose your job?
Because I was interested in taking care of animals.

Grade 3 Lesson 11 ppt. This is a very straightforward ppt. for a straightforward lesson. My handout of this lesson is posted here at the bottom of the page.

I noticed a tiny typo on one of the slides, so I am re-uploading it. If you have already uploaded this lesson, please double check for typos.

I only teach the "Speak Out" section, well it's suppose to be Listen In and Speak Out but I am not allowed to use tje audio CDs lol.  Will post some of my very linear and boring lessons when I have a chance.  I think I only have from lessons 3 or 4 onwards though.  I have a sticker system in which the kids win a reward at the end of two months so that is the only way I can get them to do the work.  Plus my kids are really low levels.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone!

I just found out that Grade 3 Chapter 12 will NOT be on our final exam which means I WON'T have to teach the Listen in and Speak out sections of this chapter. OH GLORIOUS DAY! However, when I finish writing my lessons for Grade 2 Lesson 11 and 12 I plan on possibly returning to Grade 3 Lesson 12 and making a lesson plan for it (I guess I am a glutton for punishment).

Grade 2: Lesson 11 (Growing Up)

I've mixed and matched a couple PPTs from other users on here. Thanks again for posting content everyone.  :D

This lesson covers how to give compliments and also the phrase "I'm interested in..."

Part 1:
What is a compliment?
Worksheet: Fill-in-the-blanks
Kpop Challenge

Part 2
What are you interested in?
Worksheet: Matching Jobs/Interests
Textbook: Listening A, B, C

Part 3:
Guess the Job Game
NOTE: Make sure to print out the "Jobs Game Answers" PPT. This game works like Pictionary where you a pick a couple students to draw/act the job. Show the person that is going to draw the picture #1, #2, and so on and have the class guess. After they guess you can show the answer in the PPT. Message me if you need help.

Grade 3, Lesson 12: A Little Boy and his Puppy + Finals Review Game (Chapters 10-12).

So even though Chapter 12 is not being tested for the Final exam I still have to teach it. This is not one of my best PPTs but it gets the job done.

Part 1:
"Don't Take it So hard"
Textbook Speak Out

Part 2:
"Let's Try this"
Activities Book

Part 3:
Sonic Review Game
Note: This covers Chapters 10-12. There are also some questions particular to worksheets I made so change those if you want to. AND make sure to just press NEXT. DO NOT click anywhere on the screen. I have modified this game from Daejon's amazing original to make it linear instead.

Since I'm leaving Korea soon, my school already had me give this semester's speaking test. Here are the test questions I made (based on Lessons 7-11) for Grade 1 and 2.

Heyy!  This is a lesson for G1 Unit 11 -- It's designed to be taught over the course of two classes (so two days or two weeks depending on your schedule, I guess)

The first day I ran through the powerpoint with my kids.  I didn't use any of the activities in the book because I don't really like them ahahah but my kids didn't really have any trouble with the material....even my low levels were able to pick it up with just basic in-class examples -- feel free to add on the textbook activities, though.

At the end of the lesson, there is a Guess Who game that I made (based off of the one on eatyourkimchi.com!)  I revamped it a bit and added some different people, but the gist is the same.  I ran through an example (included on the powerpoint), and let the kids practice for a couple of rounds until the end of class.  The next class, after another example, we spent the whole time playing Guess Who.  Overall, I think it was a success!  The kids LOVED it, and they were speaking English for most of the class.  (I encouraged it by taking points away from people who were speaking Korean).

So, attached is the powerpoint, gamecards, and name cards.  You just have to make copies of the gamecards and name cards, and then cut out the name cards.  I also gave each team little bits of paper to use to cover up the people as they played.

I hope it works as well for you as it did for me :]

Here is my lesson plan for 1st grade lesson 11 'what does it look like?

I start of by showing them the intro of george of the jungle which u can get from youtube.  we then talk about the animals they saw and what they looked like. and some other questions about the video where is it what happened.

i then introduce the target language 'What does it look like?' It has.... It is..... It looks like .......

then i move onto the first part of the ppt n have the students describe the pictures as we work through it awarding points for full sentences.

then move onto the 2nd part of the ppt where i will show the students five sentences one a ta time n they have to guess what is being described. NOTE you may want to change the last slide as it is my headteacher. But i would leave G-dragon in due to his smoking habits in japan.

then i do the worksheets where the students make their own quiz.  Make sure to tell them to keep it secret or they will show everyone in the class n it will ruin the game later.  Then one group at time they come to the front and describe their person/animal and the other teams must guess who or what it is.

in response to the people who were running out of ideas on how to teach the target expression without ppt or who where getting bored of running dialogue games how about consequences have the students write down a boys name fold the paper over give it to someone else they write down a girls name fold over the name again then write a place, folder over, what the boy said (could be the target expression), girl said (target expression) then what happened next (target expression They are planning to/ going to/ want to/) then have the students read out their stories.  when doing the activity make sure the students dont read what was written before.  The stories should keep the students interested because they will write down students names or famous people.  This idea works well for descriptions too.  have the first student draw a head fold the paper then a neck, body and arms/wings, legs, feet.  Then have the class describe the thing they have created.

2.  Snowball fight have the students write down a question then make the paper into a ball n throw it around the class.  Then the next student writes down the answer and throws it around again.  The 3rd student can either write down a comment or read it out to the class.

Lesson 9 - Endangered Species
Students learn about endangered species, research an endangered animal in Korea, make a PPT, and give a presentation.
