Shooot. I was going to make something for Grade 1 Lesson 12 tonight but I completely forgot my book at school. I know there is not even a "Speaking Out" section for this Lesson (I only teach that).

What is everyone doing for this Lesson? Are you teaching something from the book? Skipping it completely? I saw a post about Lesson 12 on the last page - that might help me tonight!

@renard.tami - I saw your post, and wished I could help! I don't teach grade 3 though - hopefully you figured something out!

I made this lesson quickly this morning before my classes.

This is a lesson for Grade 1 Lesson 12. There is no speaking out section of the book so I just took the main ideas and made them into a short lesson.

It won't cover the whole 45 minutes, so we will play Guess Who from Lesson 11 and maybe a review game.

I took the lesson from kcampb8 and made it my own. Thanks for your help!

Wow, it sure took a lot of effort to figure out something to do with Grade 3 Lesson 12, but here it is. Also, it's not an extremely long ppt. because the subject matter of the textbook is very straightforward.

My coteachers told me that I could do whatever I want for grade 1, so I am playing pictionary and charades for the next two weeks unless I get motivated to make a bomb game :P . She told me to take the words out of the glossary in the back of the activity book. There are about 100 cards with the English and the Korean (I think spider and queen have typos in Korean though). I put different point values based on the level I am teaching and I make the high level students write a sentence using the word to earn bonus points.

Hi again!

Here is a 2-day advertising lesson/activity I will be using for grade 3, lesson 12.  Ok, so maybe it is a bit of a stretch, but I figure that since they are learning "Let's try this" (persuasion is how the textbook translates it), and advertisements use persuasion, it is related!

On day 1, they will learn vocab (company, logo, slogan, product) and pick these things out in a few pics/videos.  Then I will give them time to think of their own company/product/logo/slogan and write it down.

I will collect their papers at the end of class because they will use them the next day (I know the will lose them otherwise!)

The second day, I will go over marketing strategies such as use of celebrities.  I really do keep it basic enough for them to get the gist, yet still be interested by the pictures I show.  Finally, they will take what they have written from the previous class and draw up an ad.  The rest of the class can be filled up with class presentations.

If you check out the PPT, it isn't that fancy but I think it will get the point across.  I am attaching a handout for day 1, and will just give them a blank sheet to draw their ad on for day 2.

I really hope the students will enjoy this activity.  I am really desperate for ways to fill this time since I see the grade 3's twice a week and have just finished the textbook.  Any suggestions are welcome!

That is enough for now.  Go check it out!

'Let's try this' is persuasion? I was reading it as a recommendation, but I guess persuasion works too.

A Korean-American friend translated the word from the textbook as persuasion, so that's what I went with.  Recommendation does seem more appropriate now that I think about it.  Anyway, I gave the students some examples so I think they got the meaning of the phrase.

Any other ideas for activities/games which would help students to remember, "Let's try this" and "Don't take it so hard"?

It seems that Korea, like English, can be translated multiple ways, so I think both are completely appropriate for this lesson. Either way, with the final exams finished, just getting the students to listen will be challenge enough  ;)

English 2 Lesson 12

Attached is my powerpoint for Speak out.

*Pass the Angry Birds is similar to Pass the Bomb or Pass the Pencil Case.  I play music (video embedded in powerpoint) and the students pass around one black and one red angry bird stuffed animal (a red marker and black marker also work).  When I stop the music whoever is holding the red bird is A and the back bird is B.  The birds will be passed around for each of the 3 dialogues in the book.

*I am using  mlcarn's Kpop game to practice I'm looking forward to...   I love it! Thank you!

What are your interests using Facebook
« Reply #611 on: November 17, 2011, 11:57:41 AM »
This lesson is for my grade two; lesson 11. But it can be used for any grade.

We are now exploring and talking about our interests and future plans. instead of simply talking or having a PPT I am having my students create their own Facebook profile using a fake character. They can choose to create whoever they want with fictional interests, career, and school.

I did show my students my own facebook profile with my actual interests and photos. They were very interested in seeing what I like and looking at my photos.

My project directions / lesson plan and activity sheet is posted below. This is a great way to let the students be creative. I'm really excited in what they come up with!

Grade 1 Lesson 12 - Future Tense

"Before Listening" and "Listen In" covers verbs in the past tense, so I put together a PPT that covers the future tense. There is also a speaking game attached. I did speaking tests this week, and I have 2 more weeks before final exams, so the final two weeks will cover the following:

Next Week - PPT Lesson and PPT Game on the Future Tense
Week After - Cover Lesson 12 Before Listening and Listen In

After covering the future tense, you can practice the future tense to preview lesson 12 asking, "What do you think is going to happen?"

Is anyone teaching G3: Lesson 12??

I'm being forced to finish the entire textbook with grade 3. It's a KILLER. The last chapter is completely ridiculous. Anyone have anything for it?

I'm attaching my Grade 1: Lesson 12 A & B materials
Sorry, the handouts seem unfinished because sometimes I just cut and paste manually. Quite therapeutic actually.

Hi. I have to do Lesson 12 as well... here's my stuff...

I made a Sonic Game using the template that I found on here. Again, many thanks to Shane/Daejon and Waygook.org for this game!! Thanks!!

2 PPT's for the Speak Out with hopefully funny examples. One has my pic in it... so, you may wanna take that out. My name is Krystale, so I thought it'd get a cheap laugh if I put my pic in overtop of Krystal from f(x). Some students thought it was funny.

Got a fill in the blanks review ppt to do that the start quickly for Lesson 11.

Gonna play a quick bingo game (haven't yet) to practice the 'Let's try this' dialouge. Basically split square, one side the obligation (I have to study) the other the other plan. (e.g. study/go skating). Student's should say, "Let's try this. How about studying together, and they going skating?". My bingo cards are quite small. I think I'll make bigger ones, but you can see the idea. Also, even though it takes some time, I think I'll fill in the cards to speed things up for my intermediate level students.

@rendard.tami   Hope that helps! I'm gonna check out your stuff too cuz I'm kinda wiped for good ideas. Thanks for posting! Take care.

My stuff for Grade 3 Lesson 12 is a page back. I totally agree it's killer and I can't wait until it's over this week.

Hey all!

Thanks for posting so many great materials here. It's been a lifesaver some weeks.

Here is my first contribution. Nothing too sexy or fancy, just a vocab review "pictionary" game for grade 1. I got the idea from somebody's post on here, and made my own PPT using the glossary from their text book. They have gone nuts for it. I pick the first kid to draw (never a lack of volunteers); after a correct guess, the class has to explain to me what the word means and use it in a sentence. Then the person who drew picks the next artist. The images I show are just examples in case the volunteer doesn't know what the word means.

Note that "handsome" is a picture of me, you probably will want to change that :)
