2nd Grade Lesson 5: Think Positive (Practice with will)

PPT starts with answering questions about the world in 100 years. They learn the meaning of optimist and pessimist.

Next, students make predictions about what they will, might, or won't do in the future. (worksheet)

Finally, students make paper fortune tellers. (Directions on PPT)

great idea about the fortune telling!

Grade 3 Lesson 6 part 1

Target language - 'I hope'

I also decided to include 'I wish' and explain the difference (co-T will come in handy here!)

I'm teaching this lesson this week and the students seem to like it, especially the game at the end.

Enjoy!

this is excellent i'm soo going to be copying it for next week. but how did you play the game? how many players etc

i'm slowly becoming addicted to waygook! this site is amazing!

Hi guys. I know some people are worried about finishing your material before the semester is over. Luckily, they have be cover 1 speak out a class. Which needs to be stretched sooo much. Luckily you guys have been great with providing lessons.

I am still on lesson 4 since I don't see my students very often.

What I do, though, to make the lessons last even longer is use my elementary school lessons (usually awesome games) as a review for the middle schoolers, since some of them really need the review. It can never hurt. I even give my high schoolers the elementary lessons.

Sentence Jumble and Holiday Jeopardy Bomb game have been amazing to me.

I have created my lesson for Grade 2, Lesson 5 Speak Out (Part 1: Expressing Sympathy) and you can find it on my website along with all other materials used in my lesson by going to :

http://www.cocoinkorea.com > Pages > Teacher Materials
I've adapted cocoinkorea's  Expressing Sympathy RolePlays w.sheet for my challenged classes, by providing a few examples of dialogue. Thank you cocoinkorea for your awesome work.

Hello

Here is the brilliant BAAM game (thank you whoever created this!) - this version is one I have made for Grade 2 covering lessons 4 & 5, if you need a lesson filler.

Enjoy!

Hello

Here is a PowerPoint for the 'I'm so sorry' part of Grade 2 Lesson 6.

I think the second part, describing people + present continuous, is going to need more time so this is a very simple and quick PowerPoint just to present the dialogue.

If anyone wants to share their wonderful ideas for the second part of Lesson 6 - describing people - feel free to share, this is going to be my open class and I'm trying not to freak out!

Cheers

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the dialogue is for Chapter 6 Dialogue 1. I forgot my book at school and need to make a lesson plan for Tuesday morning...

thanks,

Sorry I can't tell what grade you want (unless I completely missed reading it) so here's all of them:

Grade 1:

Julie: May I speak to Kevin?
Kevin: Yes, speaking. Who's this, please?
Julie: This is Julie.

Grade 2:

Mike: You're late again.
Jimin: I'm so sorry. The traffic was very heavy.

Grade 3:

Minjun: I have a math exam tomorrow.
Jenny: I hope you do well on the exam.
Minjun: Thank you. I hope so, too.

The bold parts are the highlighted parts from the books.  Hope this helps.  It's the first dialogue for all 3 grades in Chapter 6 .

I constantly have complaints about the size... no matter how big I make them, there are always one or two students who can't see :(
I know, I know!  I've got kids in the first row who squint at the board.  Last year in a hagwon when I suggested to a couple of kids that they needed glasses, they were HUGELY offended. I've never said anything to a student since.

Grade 2, Lesson 5 "I'm sorry to hear that"
« Reply #271 on: June 07, 2011, 10:30:03 AM »
Hey guys,

This is just a quick worksheet I made to go along with the first part of Grade 2, Lesson 5 "I'm sorry to hear that". I'm just going to have them do this in pair-work at the end of the lesson. I put two on a sheet to save some paper!

Hope somebody can use it! :D

here is an exercise.  First I go and explain physical appearance. then show them the slides. afterwards i have the word file cut into pictures and I pass the pictures out to random students and they have to stand up and describe the person that they got.  I hope this helps.

Grade 2 Lesson 6 - Describing.

I found that this is a great lesson to introduce the game "guess who".  They have a great version of it on eatyourkimchi.com

My kids love playing it.

In first grade when we learn describing, i focus on just the basics (hair color, hair style, hair length, eye color, etc)

And then this time around I go into details such as accessories, facial hair, clothing.

I've taught it 2 years in a row and it hasn't failed me yet.

Anyone got any ideas for Grade 3 Lesson 5?

Key expressions are "Do you have any other ones?" and "Feel free to ask."

I am working on a PPT, and I have an idea to make a "Go Fish!" style game for "Do you have any other ones?" but I have no ideas for "Feel free to ask."

Variations on this phrase (in the textbook) are "Feel free to drink some water" "Feel free to keep talking" and "Feel free to take one" but they don't inspire me.

@Chocolate Starfish:

This is a worksheet that I used with Grade 3, Unit 5. I basically had them do an activity where one person acted as a clerk in a store, and the other person was a customer.

I almost killed grade 3, lesson 6, but then some ideas magically came to me.  I have to split each lesson into 4, so here are 2 ideas:

1 - "Make sure..."
I've attached a powerpoint so the students can practice the phrase and a couple dialogues.  Then, they will do a handout where they make sentences based on pictures.

2 - "I hope..."
Each student gets a slip of paper and must fill in 4 questions:  I hope to study..., I hope to become..., etc.  Then, I will collect all the papers and volunteers from the class will come up, read a slip, and get 3 chances to guess which student's slip they have.  The get more points for guessing in fewer tries.

Check out the attachments.  Hope it goes well!

 :D

I've checked the PPT and it seems that the hyperlinks aren't working as they should. I've attached the game on it's own, which should work fine.

To play the game I put the students into teams of 5-6.

Each group then chooses a phone number.

Click on the phone number and it will link you to the one of the phone slides. If you click on the image of the phone a photo of a k-pop star will appear on the screen.

The group then has to use the dialogue from the lesson to guess which k-pop star they saw in the photo. The students will only see the photo for a few seconds. So if you need to show them the photo again just click the blue panel on the left.

Once the group has given their answer, click the slide background to reveal the k-pop star. Click again to link back to the number slide.

Hope this helps  :D
