@machoman

I teach one expression each week. I expand the expression and make it engaging. My general pattern is:

1. hangman, introduce the expression with my own flare
2. explain it, give examples : KET should help explain grammar
3. give students a handout to practice (I make my own each week and I try to change the format. sometimes crosswords, fill in the blank, etc. change is good)
4. make a ppt that matches the handout, students read the individual answers
5. ppt game: angry birds is the rave right now with my students
Your work is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s! Thank you renard.tami for sharing.

Thanks cranberryopah! I wish I could upload more of my materials, but I think alot of my stuff is virused from the computers at school, so it takes forever to try to upload a ppt... and then it fails to upload anyways. SO frustrating!!

Here are three games I modified from various PPT review games that were posted. These focus on chapters 6, 7 and 8, whereas many of the review games seem to focus on 7 & 8, or 7 8 & 9. Our school's midterm is 6 7 8, I would have assumed that sort of thing to be standardized, but perhaps other schools' midterms are covering 7 8 9?

The grade 1 jeopardy game is modified from jakeyil, and has some questions about myself as well as Canada, you'll need to change those, but it now contains a chapter 6 category.

The grade 2 doraemon game is modified from lethargicliz. I changed some of the map/directions questions, but there are still Canada specific questions which I also altered slightly. There are other minor changes as well.

The grade 3 starcraft teacher is modified from minamteacher. I replaced chapter 9 questions with chapter 6 questions, and made some other minor questions. There are also some Canada specific questions.

Thank you jakeyil, lethargicliz, and minamteacher for posting your games! I hope the revised versions will help someone out there. You know, in case I'm not the only Canadian teacher whose midterm covers 6 7 8 LOL

Grade 2, Lesson 9 + Midterm Review

Attached is my PPT for Grade 2, Lesson 9. I modified some lessons  posted on here. Thanks for the material! This covers the two phrases: "You're not supposed to..." and "I'm really upset."

This lesson is very quick and short because the 2nd half of my class is a Midterm Review Game (Chapters 7,8,9)

Thanks to Shane Teacher for making the AMAZING Sonic Game. My students went crazy for this. I modified the previous version posted for my class.

Modifications:
Eliminated the choice boxes.
The game is linear now instead of having the S's pick a letter. Just keep pressing the next arrow. (I have too many students in my Grade 2 classes so I have to eliminate choice for sake of time).

Hope this helps! When done in tandem, this lesson takes the whole period and the S's go crazy.

Hi,

Here is a PPT I made for Grade 3 Lesson 9. Do you mind if I...  It's based off of the 3 pictorial examples in the book, plus a couple of extras.  Also, I attached a similar game to go with it for more speaking practice.

Here's a PPT to practice "How much is this ____?" for Grade 1 Lesson 9. I use it as a game as well at the end of the lesson.

A lot of my students like the "Kaboom" Game. Here are some PPT's for Grades 1, 2, and 3 for Lesson 9. I usually just use this in the last 5 mins of class and the student who gets the correct answer, gets a candy. You can also take longer with it, add in some 'kabooms' and play it as a team game. Not my original idea, but I made the slides. Thanks to EatYourKimchi.com for the game idea.

Here's a PPT for Grade 1 Lesson 9. It has some of the shopping dialogue in it, but it's mostly for the "Did you see...?/What do you think of the...?" stuff. I use it to introduce/practice the dialogue with the students.

If by 'open attachments' you mean download files, you need at least 5 posts in the forum (which you have now). If by open attachments you mean add ppt. or doc. files to your posts, just click the + attachments and other options sign at the bottom of the post box. I hope that helps.

Has anyone started thinking about lesson 10 for grade 2, or have their lesson from last year for that chapter?? I have a huge open class on it in a couple weeks, but they want the plans this week! I have some basic ideas, but am far from having a spectacular lesson to show...

Really anything would help at this point^^

Grade 3 Midterm Review (w Saved by the Bell)
« Reply #453 on: September 29, 2011, 10:51:05 AM »
Here are some comprehension questions related to the Saved by the Bell Episode "Jessie's Song" (available on youtube)

It is the episode with the infamous "I'm so excited! I'm SO EXCIIITED" freakout....

The questions relate to [some of] the grammar concepts taught in lessons 7-9.

Enjoy

My first power point done myself!
I used someone's idea (I forget who. sorry!) for the dialogue boxes. And got other ideas from this lesson.

I am showing The Beatle's "I want to hold your hand" clip to get the students attention and ask them to fill in I ___ ___ hold your hand.

Please comment on it and make suggestions.

**I fixed a few slight errors in this**

Here is an Advice Jeopardy game for Grade 2. I have the students play it after we go over examples of giving advice on the board and using "I think you should".

If anyone needs ideas for Grade 2 Lesson 9 "You're not supposed to~" the game I used was a simple variation on Apples to Apples. I made simple cards with different pictures of locations (like space, ocean, Korea, library, school, etc.) and provided blank slips of paper to my students. One student at a time would get to draw a card and be the "judge" - the other students have to write one thing that you're not supposed to do in that location, fold the paper, and hand it to the judge. The judge reads the answers aloud, gets to choose which one wins, and that student gets a point. The game is pretty much the same as A to A except the students write their own answers. You can do an easier version for your lower-level kids with pre-made answer cards and have them keep a constant amount of cards in their hand at a time, drawing a new card every time they play one.

I started off playing as an entire class with me being the judge and students calling out different answers first before moving into smaller groups and featuring the location on my PPT.

The students loved it and came up with some pretty hilarious responses (like for the ocean the winning answer in one group was "You're not supposed to eat the fish without cooking"). Another plus was that it did not need any technology, but I just used some slides with pictures as a backdrop.

Here is a Prezi that I prepared that I'll show to my students to get them to try to think differently about their approach to learning how to speak English and hopefully to help build their cofidence. Let me know what you think, and let me know if there is anything you think I should add. I won't use this prezi until October 10th, the week after their midterms. I think it might be helpful for your co-teachers as well if they don't speak much English at school.

Where can I get these books?

You mean where can I get the Thomas Orr textbooks? Well, the Thomas Orr textbooks are provided by your school, so I don't know where you could buy them. Personally, I don't think you would actually WANT to use these books because their are quite awful.
