yeah i was doing a lesson in one week but i've changed it to two because i am way ahead of my co-teachers. they only want me to teach listen in and speak out so it's not all that much material to go with..

Most teachers here only get the speak out section so consider yourself lucky. I have the same sections as you and actually have trouble getting through all of the material in 2 weeks per Unit. I also find it easier and funner to lag behind my co-teachers. That way they do the heavy lifting of teaching the material and I come along and review it and play with it.

Here is my PowerPoint for Grade 3 Lesson 5 'Feel Free' dialogue. I stole a few slides from someone's posted PowerPoint (thank you!!).

Anyone got ideas for Lesson 5 Grade 3 activities for 'feel free' and 'are there any others'? I'm thinking of combining the 2 to make some sort of shopping activity but I am struggling to put it all together and come up with something fun!

Any help or ideas would be great!!!  ;D

Grade 3 Lesson 5 - Dream Home Shopping Game

First I taught a bunch of shopping expressions, which are all used in the game's dialogue.  There is no "feel free" statement though; I think that was simple enough for the students to grasp, and not really so important anyways.

You don't need any fake money or anything like that for this game which makes it simpler.  Check out the handouts I've attached and you'll get it!

Enjoy!

Thankyou rxqueen your creativity redeemed, for me, what seemed to be a *face palm* bland lesson.

Most of the students found the last part of my lesson challenging, so I updated it through my website and created a new worksheet to accompany it as well.

Hi there,

I arrived at my school in 2009 and at the time we were using Thomas Orr for our first graders. The following year my school changed to using the Thomas Orr curriculum for both first and second graders. And now in 2011, we are using Thomas Orr for all three grades.

I'm REALLY struggling with these books, only because they teach the same thing every year... after this long, I've exhausted all my ideas on how to teach many of the "key phrases".

I'm especially having difficulty coming up with ideas for statements of agreement and disagreement ("I think so too!") and the classic good news bad news responses ("I'm glad to hear that" / "I'm sorry to hear that")

These phrases have been drilled into these kids for years now. Do any of you have some creative ideas on how I can make these lessons more relevant?

Thanks

The wonderful thing about dealing with this book and being a native speaker is that you can get away with twisting meanings from time to time so you can teach something that's somewhat relevant.

Grade 3 lesson 6 is just one of those lessons. Taking basic response comments and making a lesson out of it. Ready? Go.

I hope you blah blah blah -> Encouraging others -> What do you hope for? -> Insert "Goals" lesson here.

I'm redecorating my classrooms from an idea that my friend Poppy posted that utilizes both life goals and soccer!

http://www.how-to-draw-funny-cartoons.com/image-files/cartoon-soccer-6.jpg

Print out a few of the soccer balls, and have students get into a group of 4, each one writing a goal in a white spot on the ball. I'll upload my silly ppt when I get my computer back.

PS, does anybody else feel like this is the Apocalypse chapter?

Hello everybody,

I am posting my lessons for Grade 2 lesson 5 and Lesson 6 together. I decided to change the order I cover the dialogues because two of the dialogues relate very closely to one another.

Lesson 5 now covers the first dialogue from lesson 5 ('I'm sorry to hear that' on page 63) and the first dialogue from Lesson 6 ('I'm so sorry' on Page 77). My focus concerns the difference between sorry for sympathy and sorry for apology as Koreans do not use the word sorry to express sympathy.

Lesson 6 now covers the second dialogue from lesson 5 ('I'm sure' on page 63) and the second dialogue from lesson 6 ('adjectives dialogue' on page 77).

I have included my lesson plan for lesson 5 to clear up any confusion.

Edit: I noticed a few minor typos, so please edit before you use it!

this is for lesson 5 3rd grade. To the teacher who used pororo and bart to explain the invitation game: thanks! borrowed that type of format to explain my shopping go fish . . . . I've only tried it with one class so far. it has great potential but seems to be missing something . . . .and this is very time consuming making cards for this game. . . .so here it is! if you have some spare time

lol i dont really care! but the cutting took a really LONG time and the squares are very small so you'd have to make them bigger.

the kids all seem to enjoy it, once they finall get how to play!
kills about 20-30 mins.

I also attached the ppt i did to talk them through it!

Grade 3 lesson 6 part 2

Focus language - 'make sure'

Make sure for giving orders and make sure for saying we will do something.

A simple lesson that I havent tried out yet, but hopefully the students will go for it.

Students make their own school rules and are encouraged to be a stupid as they like.

Matching activity gets the students up and moving in case energy slumps.

Grade 3 Lesson 6 part 1

Target language - 'I hope'

I also decided to include 'I wish' and explain the difference (co-T will come in handy here!)

I'm teaching this lesson this week and the students seem to like it, especially the game at the end.

Enjoy!

Here is Grade 2, Lesson 5, Part 1 Expressing Sympathy.  Special thanks to Jelly Bean and Cocoinkorea whose material and presentation I've adapted.  I'm challenged in 2 ways by my students. 1st their rudimentary English coupled, in some cases, with fledgling personal discipline, and 2nd their ongoing struggle to see the white board.

I've altered slides to help them understand, enlarged the font and added a bit of material. There's nothing new here. Thank you for your creativity.

This is a Simpson's Bomb game to review lesson 5 for grade 2's.  (Some of the material I took from a poster, ...)....If you use this, tell me how it goes!!!
I will use this next week, and I'll let you know. Thank you rxqueen.

Edit, June 20th.  It took longer than I thought. The kids participated and the teams worked together somewhat smoothly to supply answers. Thank you from me and my class!

I constantly have complaints about the size... no matter how big I make them, there are always one or two students who can't see :(
