Grade 2 Lesson 8

A choose your own adventure game I put together for Grade 2 Lesson 8. I don't know how to do hyperlinks, so I took another choose your own adventure ppt here on waygook, and I changed the storyline and pictures based on these oh so fun Thomas Orr books.

Any complaints about this powerpoint? One of my co-teachers said that it's too bloody, so I have to change it. I'm thinking of changing it to a Transformers theme, but I'll use it for a couple of classes while looking for new pictures.

Here is my lesson for Grade 3 Lesson 8. I have included a 'hypothetical' work sheet using the "If I were _______ I would _______" format.

*EDIT* I noticed a few tiny typos, so I am uploading a 'fixed' copy. Make sure you double check this lesson before you teach anything.

Any chance you could repost this pptx as a ppt?  I can't open it :(

Try this fix: http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,21281.0.html after you download this you can open pptx. with powerpoint 2003.

i can't think of ANYTHING for grade 3 lesson 9 so i'm just going to play the game that's inside the book.

here's the prezi i have for that lesson though...

http://prezi.com/tkhkomqzz1mo/g3l9/

I officially hate the grade three textbook with a fiery passion!

I was thinking to myself, 'this lesson seems VERY familiar,' then I remembered that the students studied the expression "would you mind turning off your cell phone?" LAST YEAR for grade 2 lesson 10! We are teaching the exact same key expression for two years in a row! >.< *facepalm

BTW, Is the game you are talking about on page 142?

I agree with the assessment that the Orr books are abominations! Hope you make it through the semesters!

Grade 3 Lesson 8 ... lesson PPTs to teach the dialogue.

Then, Lesson 8 review PPT plus an activity where students are in pairs, they write different answers to the given "If you were..." questions, then discuss them. No idea what activity to do for "It will be nice....".

Hope this will be useful to someone.

Grade 3 book is just pants.

Grade 2 Lesson 9 teaching week so just a PPT to show the dialogue etc. Starts off with a Lesson 8 review.

My lower levels found it really hard to say the "You're not supposed to ....." line so I repeated this a lot in the presentation to get them to practice it over and over - you might want to remove some of it!!

Hey, I have no idea if this is going to work if you click on it, but here's my prezi for 1st grade, lesson 8, pages 99 to half way down 101. So it cover's what's the meaning of "butterflies in my stomach", using "I can" and "I can't", and asking for clarification.

Please note, if you do use this, the first video that I used from Youtube has swearing (although you can't hear it as it is blurred out) at the end (the one with the little nervous kid in it), so you should stop it after the kid says "I can't". This is very important. Unfortunately, I don't know how to cut videos yet, so I warned you!!!

I am going to send a special shout out to Machoman and chris0206. The stuff you posted for Grade 3 Lesson 9 has saved me from a dreadfully boring and repetitive rehashing of last years material.  Thank you both very much!

thank you thank you....

and i'd like to thank chris0206 for uploading that game.... however, i revised it by changing the rules and changing some of the "do you minds.."  hopefully it's more interesting.  just a warning if you download the original version that chris0206 posted, there are a few slides with grammar errors, the creator wrote "I" twice in many of the slides.

it's now more of a truth or dare kind of game minus the truth part.

and also, instead of passing a pen to choose the two players, i am having the class play the 눈치 game.  if you guys don't know the 눈치 game your co teacher should know.  or, just ask me.

**** EDIT***** the previous version i uploaded didn't have the right animations set during the rule part.  i fixed it.  sorry bout that.

Wow to Chris and Machoman for the great game!  It looks like it could be a lot of fun.

My question is how do your students respond to it?  I feel like it would take a million years for the students to actually read the question, nevermind actually doing the action!  It's not becasue they're that low-level, but I feel like they'd be way too embarassed to do it.  I really want to try the game, though, so I was just wondering if you have any tips!

Thanks again!

i played the original game with my high level class, the class was into it at first, but then the questions got kind of boring and not embarrassing enough, and so their enthusiasm fizzled out.  the girls were kind of shy about it.

i just played the revised version with my low level and they loved it.  but that class is mostly boys and they don't have shame plus they love attention.  so maybe that's why it was more successful.

i have yet to try the new version with my B or A level classes though.

Grade 2 Lesson 8

Zombie Adventure using Directions

I ran through this powerpoint for the first time yesterday, and I found some mistakes, so I'm re-uploading it for anybody who wants to use it. It went really well with the two classes I taught so far.

alright, about the nunchi game....

everyone in the class stands up.  any person standing can start the game by counting "one," after they say "one," they sit down.  any other random student says "two" and they sit down.  this goes on until everyone sits down.  however, if two students say the same number at the same time, they are the two "losers."   i THINK this is originally a drinking game in which the two people who say the same number at the same time must drink.  the object of the game is to NOT say the same number at the same time as someone else.

so, once there are two losers, they play rock paper scissor to decide who is the winner and who is the loser.

if everyone is able to successfully sit down without saying the same number, then i choose the last two students who are standing as the two losers.

i HOPE this makes sense, it might sound a little strange or confusing, so let me know if you have any questions.

but, if you tell your class that they'll be playing the nunchi game, they will all know how to do it.

I just teach the Listen and Speak Out parts: here's what I have for both. I think it's pretty self-explanatory.

What may not be obvious - I try to correct the book where I think it's way wrong, especially in regards to how to be polite.

Grade 2 Lesson 7 Who will you give a ride

ppt that lets students practice giving and asking for opinion. i made this lesson for my girls classes, so if you have co-ed or boys classes, you should change some of the pictures.

cheers
