GRADE 1 LESSON 6

here's a directions activity i did with my class. I printed a big A1 copy of the map and put it on the board, or you can print small A4 copies and give student his/her own map. the map is an adaptation of a map Michael Holmes made for our orientation lesson plan. Attached is also a question sheet. It fits in really well with L&S 1. As always I also have the basic chapter notes for beginners and advanced students that I drill into them to make sure they have the basics down.

fantastic! this will save me hours of work and frustration. thanks a lot!

Here is a review game for chapter's 4-5 Grade 3 (pink book). For some reason my co teacher only wanted them to get to lesson 5 and that's their final.

Here is one review jeopardy game i made for grade 3.  the review is covers vocabulary and some of the 'key expressions' from lesson 4,5 and 6.   i will be the first to admit it is not a dazzling ppt to say the least, but i was under the gun one morning and didn't have much time.   when playing the game you need to use the bottom left icon to return to the main jeopardy screen (the main screed is 'slide 1')

This was really a great review.  I used it at one of my most difficult schools and all the students were flipping through their books.  Even my most advanced student in this class was stumped with some of the question (this never happens as her level is so must higher than the rest).  I used this in conjunction to the who wants to be a millionaire review and the students appreciated the review.

Grade 1. Lesson 2. Do you have healthy habits?

Listen and Speak 2.

We learn the language, being able to express preference.

I love..
I like...
I don't like...
i hate...

Afterwards, I give them a worksheet and simply post 20 pictures and ask students to write down their preference for each picture. Afterwards, we gather the information and find out what majority students' preferences are. Then we will practice speaking the top preferences for the 20 pictures.

simple. and depending on how good the pictures are, fun.

Grade 3 Lesson, 7-Four Days in Austria
Anyone have anything yet?
I truly dislike my third graders and have a really hard time thinking of anything for them.  Everything I try to think about a lesson, my brain just shuts down. Last semester was so terrible!  Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Skeller:  I'm just starting to work on that today.  (ugh).  From the looks of it....Listen and Speak 1 are about Past Tense, so I'm thinking I'll make a past tense PPT about my summer vacation (and a "reveal the picture" game to go with it.

Listen and Speak 2 looks like a good chance to do more advanced directions.  They know "turn left"  "turn right" so I'm thinking of expanding it to "hang a right at the lights" and "Turn right in the alley just before the bank"  "take line 1 to City Hall"  etc. etc.

I have until Friday to finish....and I'm a big procrastinator (my bad) but I'll let you know if I come up with anything decent :)

Grade 3 - Lesson 7 '4 Days in Austria'

Here's an activity I did for Listen and Speak 1, dialogue C p111. The dialogue is stupidly easy so I created a race out of it. Went through the vocab and pictures of the 9 words, camping, fishing, cooking etc. Then explained the game to them. Each kid gets one laminated card with a picture on it, camping or fishing or travelling etc and one sheet to write on. The aim is to find all 8 words as quickly as possible by asking other students in the class. When they talk to another student they ask them 'What do you like to do?'. The student responds with whatever card they've been given e.g if I've got a fishing card I would say 'I enjoy fishing'. The student would then ask me if I enjoy whatever their card is too and they write down my response. Once they've got all 8 activities they come to me and I check their sheet. If they have all 8 I ask them what they enjoy doing and they should say what's on their card to complete the 9 words.

I thought this would be too easy for them, but they've actually enjoyed it quite a bit, done it 7 times so far and each class gets involved. I think something fairly straightforward like this is good to ease them back into things after the holiday.

I give the first 3 students with correct sheets a class point but you could give candy, I would do if I wasn't so skint.

A warning - my powerpoint is always really basic. You might want to jazz it up a little bit. Print out the last slide and cut up for the cards.

Hey all,

Sorry if this is too late, but I've been doing a "How was your summer?" prior to starting the book next week.

1. Word Scramble, first team to 4 points is the winner, 5-10mins.
2. Target focus, How was your summer/What did you do this summer/Where did you go?, 5mins
3. Vocab review, What did you do this summer PPT, 10-15m
4. Speed Survey, Ask your friends and write their answers, 1st 3 teams to finish win a point, 5mins

I didn't create the PPT, just modified it.  I wish I could give credit to the creator, but I can't find their OP :(

Hope it helps!

Hi all,
Grade 3, Chapter 7, Four Days in Austria.
Focus: Do you Enjoy

last minute i came up with this.  You might have to beef it up, and the animations are a bit haphazard.  .   So this only took about 20 minutes of class,  (the first half of class was all rules review and welcome back stuff) but if you spent more time reading together and talking together it could certainly take up some time.
maybe have them CREATE a vacation package (there's space on worksheet).

I hope this will help some of you!

I find that there are too many topics for each chapter. In one chapter, titled "Smalls Steps for a Better Tomorrow" there are topics about weather, recycling, what is in this place, I should/shouldn't do this" etc etc. It's frustrating when you must incorporate everything into your lesson plan   ???

To Twitch: Thanks for the ideas! I'm a new teacher and was having trouble figuring out what to plan my lesson around. Would you suggest breaking the chapter into smaller portions to make a more comprehensible lesson?

I want to observe, but my co-teacher has just left me sitting at my desk.  I do not know where she went.  We are suppose to have a class but she has been in and out doing things, and I don't think she is teaching at the moment.  I feel lost right now.

I'm working with this textbook too and unfortunately I don't have a choice of not using the CD...I'm new so I really want to sit and observe how my co-teacher using the CD in her class but once again it's not an option. Hopefully I will have more freedom to try out some of your advices here! Thanks for this thread!

I have these books too!  I think I'm lucky as my co-teacher is keen for me to add different activities, as long as I cover all the content in the books.

I'm pretty new, but maybe those of you who are being restricted by the books (because they told you to), could ask if you could trial one of your own lessons.  Teach half a topic exactly as the book says, then the other half in the next lesson, you could teach with your own methods / activities.  Get your co-teachers to guage the response...Don't know if that would be possible, but that's what I would try.  Hope that helps!
