Here's a couple things I threw together for the "Warm Up" part of Grade 3 - Lesson 3: Laughs, Tears, and More for my low level. Basically its just a powerpoint covering movie genres and then some embedded youtube videos that I showed the kids and asked them what genre it was. Not all of the videos worked embedded (like the one for Forrest Gump) but by clicking on them it will redirect you to directly to youtube where the video will work. Also, I prepared a Mario Adventure game to go along with it, but never got to it as the powerpoint took the entire class. It seemed to go over with my low level kids as they usually refrain from really trying, but this got them talking a bit.  Hope it helps.

I revised lesson 3 and 4.  I also have added Lessons 7 to 12.  Some original material, some I have taken from others.  If you use it or even revise it, feel free to post it back here later.  As previously stated, I do one week heavily focused on the text which these lessons represent and the second week less text book focused while focused on the theme or topic of the chapter itself.

I should specify that these are for grade one only.  I had previously uploaded Lessons 1 to 6 for grade one and two.  Please add to it as you see fit.  (The phrases section are based on the phrases from the book.  I do a quick listen and repeat with my students for that section.  Good for their pronunciation even if it gets a little boring.)

This worksheet goes with lesson 3.  (I took it from another member.)

This is my lesson for Grade 1, Chapter 3, Think and Write.
It was a smashing success.
After the PPT and doing then doing the text book work, I launch into an activity using the video "learn" on Vimeo.
I play the video once and then give them the worksheet and then play it about 3-4 more times for them to complete the worksheet. I gave the first 5 finishers with every thing 100% correct candy.

I made a 11 slide PowerPoint that should help Grade 1 students review the text of Lesson 2 - Do You Have Healthy Habits?

The 10 or 11 questions are fill in the blank questions

I usually give the students 10 or 15 minutes to memorize the Read and Do section (the reading text).

Then I show the PowerPoint and have students answer the questions.

First, I have them close their books and try to answer the questions.

If they REALLY can't come up with the correct answers, I let them open their books.

You can either have individual students raise their hands or have the students answer the questions in teams.

Depending on how smart your students are, this PowerPoint should take 20 to 30 minutes...but I don't think it will take up all 45 minutes,

so I recommend that you prepare some kind of back-up activity in case you have 10 or 15 minutes before class ends

I modified the Grade 1, Chapter 3 Think and Write PowerPoint uploaded by twak24.

I added a couple slides for Let's Communicate, page 45.

I am uploading both the PowerPoint 2003 (ppt) and PowerPoint 2007 (pptx) files

this is my first time teaching in Korea (or ever for that matter) and i was told by the school that i should not be using the english books at all. is this normal?? im fine with it but its a bit difficult coming into the situation with no guidance at all. its hard for me to judge what level the kids are at, i think they are much lower than other public schools. so far ive just been sort of winging it with lesson planning but i dont know how long that can last

Am I missing something? Is there a better way than searching through 30 odd pages for a relevant topic? How can there be no folder system for this? Is there anything I can do to make it easier to find relevant lessons? It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Well, for the most part, lessons are posted in order.  Lesson 1, 2, 3, etch.  So if you click on a random page, look at the lessons that are being posted, you can figure out where to find a lesson corresponding to the current one you're teaching.  And I think the lessons only go back a year.  So most people are posting lesson 3 plans now.  But if you want last year's lesson 3s, click on page 5 or so.  And remember these lessons go with the book that we use.

joepeger,

I'm not sure how the Waygook search feature is with finding what you're looking for, but I always use Google. Start any Google search with this line:

site:http://waygook.org/ "Topic: New Middle School English Books"

and it will return only pages from this thread. From there, you can treat it like any other Google search.

site:http://waygook.org/ "Topic: New Middle School English Books" "Lesson 12"
will return any pages on this thread that mention Lesson 12. Be sure to put your search terms inside parentheses if you only want Google to return pages that mention Lesson 12. Otherwise, it will return all of the pages that mention "Lesson" and all of the pages that mention "12."

I agree, a file structure for these kinds of threads would be ideal, but until then, I hope adding this to your arsenal of tools for content collection can at least make the process less of a drag. Hope I'm not reinventing the wheel here with another search option. I just assume that Master Google is better equipped to serve our needs. Always.

Also, in case it isn't obvious, you don't need the "http://www." in those search terms.

Also #2,

I'm somewhat conflicted about this. My sense of community-mindedness and my hatred of the rotten carrot-on-a-stick that is PowerPoint are at serious odds. But...

I have all of the attachments that have been shared on this thread downloaded and organized in folders. By "all" I mean about 95%, as some attachments just didn't seem relevant for one reason or another as I was going through. I've found most of it unusable for my classroom situation, but I've continued keeping it organized out of compulsive online desk-sitting behavior. Anyway, I don't have the webspace myself to host the 700 MB it takes up, but if someone else here does and would let me know how I could get it to him/her, I'd be happy to submit it for all us lazies out there.

Grade 1 Lesson 3 Build-Up and Think and Write - How is your school life?

As I was walking out the door today, I was asked to prepare something for the the Grade 1 Lesson 3 Build-Up and Think and Write parts of the textbook. While I think I'll probably use the excellent worksheet that goes along with the "Learn" video, I also prepared one of Sprite06's Pokemon bomb games as well, though I don't know if I'll get to use it so I might as well share it. It's pretty basic, using some of the stuff straight from the textbook and from some of the other PowerPoints people have posted. I saved it in Office 2003, so hopefully the fonts embedded correctly. Hope it helps.

This 20 slide PowerPoint should help students review the Read and Do section (the reading text) of Lesson 3 (Grade 1 - Lesson 3 - How is Your School Life)

Middle School Grade 2 MIDTERM REVIEW Lesson 1, 2, and 3 Mario (Bomb) Game - Review of Read and Do (reading text) for Lessons 1, 2, and 3

1) Design Your Year
2) Our Friends From around the World
3) Are You a Good Netizen?

UPDATE

I think you need to save this Mario game as a pptx (PowerPoint 2007) file.

I tried to play the game in Powerpoint 2003 (ppt) format, but it doesn't work well.

Sorry about that

For Lesson 3 Build Up - this is for Grade 2 - my co-teacher "requested" that I write a story using present perfect (I have... Have you ever?)

I modified a Ted Williams Golden Voice story.

The original story can be found here - http://www.stgeorges.co.uk/blog/a-present-perfect-story-viral-video-has-saved-the-radio-star

I am posting my Lesson 1, 2, 3 Midterm Review materials for Grades 1, 2, and 3.

I thought it would be good if the Midterm Review materials were all in one place.

For the Mario Game, I would highly recommend that you use PowerPoint 2007.

The Mario Game doesn't work well in PowerPoint 2003.
