I have them get in groups of 6 and then as a group they say one phrase on the left (Where is ______?) and then a phrase on top (i.e. Go straight and turn left). I'm sure there are better games for actually giving and following directions, but my students are at a pretty low level so I focus on just getting them to speak. For Grade 1 Lesson 6 (Mongolia Land of Blue Sky), I taught Listen & Speak 1 (page 100) in the blue Activity Book. Before I had the students practice Page 100, I used a Directions PowerPoint that I modified (I deleted unnecessary slides). After I went over the PowerPoint, I led the students through Part B of Listen & Speak 1 (Activity Book). After the students practiced giving directions, they stood up and practiced with their partners. For classes that finished early, I spent 10 to 15 minutes playing the Directions Bomb Game uploaded by adamjaythomas. Thank you adamjaythomas!
