Grade 3 Lesson 5 Listen and Speak 1. The students had the book open with the dialogue in front of them as a guide.

For some reason, I am not able to download many of these uploads. A korean message keeps popping up, saying something about the wrong version?? I am not able to decipher. Can someone please help me? At first I thought something was wrong with the file, but since many of these seem to have the same message, I'm thinking it's something on my end. I have ppt 2007 and 2010 on the computers that I use. What should I do???

after a lot of experimenting and frustration with lesson planning (I'm a new teacher this year)... I think I've got things relatively figured out.

It definitely helps if you have the teachers version, there's a little blurb before each section/day of each lesson that says what the students will be learning that day.  Ex: today we will be learning comparatives and superlatives, or we will learn what to say when we are trying to buy something (I'm looking for...).  I just refer to those portions and maybe a few of the sample scripts and then create the main content from there.

A lot of times the language the textbook uses is very stiff or awkward, so I just formally show/teach that part and make sure the students know that's the important part, then I focus on speaking in a more casual way with a second, slightly modified expression.  They seem to enjoy things like slang/casual speech better (it sounds cool to them when they say things like "I'm down for some coffee") and the usage is usually pretty much the same.

Here are one of my recent lessons, that I'm quite proud of for Grade 3... they didn't particularly enjoy the worksheet/powerpoint part as it's the grammar/boring-stuff-you-should-know part but they were paying attention and nearly all of my students did the worksheet.  (Usually I get about 50-60% completion...I'm at a pretty poor/low-level school)  A lot of visual aids help, particularly of sweet foods, cute animals, pop stars, or blockbuster movies.

Grade 3 - Lesson 4
Start off with the powerpoint, there is a short video in the beginning of Ernie singing "I'd like to visit the moon" which might be a little too immature for the students, they didn't seem to enjoy it.  I'd consider replacing it with the Pink Panther "I'd like a hamburger" video:

Then introduce the expression (I would like -> I'd like -> I'd like to and I'd like a).  My students, like I mentioned, are at lower levels, so I reinforced the "to" and "a" distinction (verbs/nouns).  As you go through the ppt, have the students call out what the answer should/could be and then have them all fill in the final answer on their worksheet.  The top portion of the worksheet is just for explaining/studying purposes... they don't need to fill in anything there.

Then comes the game/activity part - I used "Write Now!" game.  Split them into groups (I did 3, for each cluster of desks that they usually sit in) and have 1 writer come up to the board.  They then have 1-2 minutes to fill in answers to the model sentence using "a/an" properly with their teammates shouting answers to them.  Each correct answer is 1 point.  I also added later rules like any copied/duplicate words are disqualified which aren't on the powerpoint.  2 mins works well for a first test round and for less advanced students, 1 min for more advanced students/later rounds otherwise they have too many answers and it becomes difficult to check them.  After that, narrowing down the nouns they can use (by adding "to buy" or "to eat" verbs makes it a lot easier for them).  I usually have time for only 1-3 rounds, but my students love doing this activity.  They love shouting answers for their teammate, and it's quite hilarious when they're panicked and can't remember how to spell "chicken."

Phew...that explanation was longer than I intended, but I hope it helps.  Again, this worked really well for me ('cuz of my students' level, etc.) I'd love to know if it does for anyone else.

Grade 2 Lesson 5- Phone Conversations

Intro:  Watch Big Phone Guy Video
Dialogue:  Practice Dialogue and Translate
Would you like to ______?:  Listen and Repeat
Hidden Picture Game:  Students guess the picture and make a sentence (Would you like to?)
Phone conversations (pass the ball):  Split the class down the middle.  Give each side one ball.  The students must pass the ball to their team while music plays (play the peanut butter jelly video).  When the music stops, the players holding the balls must stand up and roleplay.  (You can go back to the pbj video after each round.)
Review Game:  Mystery Box

Thanks again to everyone who made the original powerpoints and games, you are the best!!!  Let me know if you have any questions about the directions.

Anyone have ideas for G1 Lesson 6? My teachers keep me limited to the dialogue on Listen & Speak 1 and Listen & Speak 2. I'm getting so frustrated with these lessons. I feel like just showing movies for the remainder of the year. It's one thing to limit me to what I do. It's another thing for them to not help at all. Freaking EPIK, told us the teachers would help...I got one of the bad schools....

I think it's pretty common for co-teachers not to help with lesson planning (in middle schools). Mine don't assist with the lessons at all (planning or teaching) and I think that is the norm. I was at an elementary school last year and it was a huge hassle trying to coordinate lessons with a co-teacher.. so I actually like it better this way. It does suck that they limit what you can do, though.

For Grade 1 Lesson 6

I attached a directions bomb game that I found somewhere on here and modified a little. I have them get in groups of 6 and then as a group they say one phrase on the left (Where is ______?) and then a phrase on top (i.e. Go straight and turn left). I'm sure there are better games for actually giving and following directions, but my students are at a pretty low level so I focus on just getting them to speak.

Also, since the chapter is about other countries, I attached an Animaniacs countries of the world video. The first time they just watch and then the second time I have them write down as many countries as they can. Whoever writes the most gets candy.

For grade 2 Lesson 6

I attached a Bingo game from earlier in this thread that I changed just a little. I go over the all the phrases with the students (Have you ever ______?) and then have them stand up and walk around the room asking each other if they have ever done one of the things on the worksheet. They write the name of the student in the box and the first student to get 3 lines get's candy and I give the rest of the students 1 point for every line they get (I have a participation points system with my classes.. so if you don't you'll have to come up with some other type of reward). It's a good idea to limit how many questions they can ask 1 student (I limit it to 2) and to make clear that they have to choose a phrase on the paper and ask them that specific phrase so they don't just go to a student, trade papers and write their names on some of the boxes. It's not great, but it's the best I could come up with for the listen and speak 1 of this chapter.

I also attached a couple of optical illusion videos. If you feel like you need to kill some more time I'm sure you could find a lot more on Youtube.

My students loved the warm up because It talked about something other than "Korean" things! Hope you like!/quote]

Good material, except David was sculpted not by Leonardo DaVinci, but by Michelangelo Buonarroti in 1501.

Here's a multiple choice game for reviewing grade 1 lessons 4-6. Not too difficult but wanted more of a 'review' lesson than a teaching lesson. Have used this format before over the traditional bomb games and it went down well with the class.

Thanks for posting this material.  Excuse my ignorance, but how exactly are these bomb games played?

This is for Grade 3 Listen and Speak 2 Unit 5. Like the previous Girls Generation game, it involves 2 students in each team using the dialogue in the book as a template.

Have You Ever? Present Perfect Simple lesson ideas

Show Have You Ever1 powerpoint and explain. Then show Have You Ever2 and have students practice making Have you ever? questions

Then, show video clips (about 10 minutes total) and have students make Have you ever? questions -

for example.... Have you ever driven a car? Have you ever raced a car? Have you ever gone rafting?

Grade 3 Lesson 6- Similes

Intro:  Talk about superheroes and watch the Avengers trailer.
Guess the Superhero:   Describe a superhero and Ss guess the superhero.  Then, translate the sentences.
Adjectives:  Review adjectives
Run Say Write:  (Running Dictation) Make teams.  Print out pg. 30 and tape it outside of the classroom.  Give each team a blank sheet of paper.  Each team chooses a writer.  Then, give each member of the team a number 1-10.  When the teacher says "go," the 1st players from each team run outside, memorize their sentence, run back, and tell their writers.  As the writers write the sentence, the second players stand up, run and memorize sentence 2, and so on.  It's like a relay race.  The first team to finish wins. You can show pg. 31 to help out the writers with spelling.
Group Activity:  In the same groups, show a picture.  Teams must write down a funny sentence.  Then, teams will say their sentence out loud.  Have a vote.  The team with the best sentence wins. ( I had each team cheer as loud as they could for their own sentence)
