Simple memory game for grade 2 Lesson 7 (my students are very low level)

Ask them to come up with as many occupations as they can think of and write them on the board. Then get them in groups of 6 or so and rock paper scissors to see who goes first. The first student says to the one next to him/her "What do you want to be in the future?" and the second student replies "I want to be a/an ______." The second student then turns to the third student and says "What do you want to be in the future?" The third student must repeat the occupation that the second student said and add another one. For example, if the second student said "I want to be a firefighter." The third student can say "I want to be a firefighter and a teacher." Then he/she turns to the next student, asks "What do you want to be in the future?", who replies "I want to be a firefighter, a teacher and ______." Keep going around the circle until someone forgets or makes a mistake in remembering the order. The person behind the person who forgot (the one who last said the whole list correctly) gets a point and then you restart the whole thing, starting with the person who messed up.

This can also work for grade 1 Lesson 7 using "How is the weather?" and "It is sunny/cloudy/hot/cold/cool/windy/snowing/foggy."

Grade 1 Lesson 8- Idioms and Was/ Were

Intro: Talk about idioms
Group Game:  Divide class into groups.  Give each group one piece of paper.  Groups must guess the correct meaning of each idiom.  After guessing, add up the correct answers for each group.  Groups get one spin from the lucky wheel (attached) for each correct answer.  The team with the most points gets a prize.
Was/ Were:  Review the grammar points and ask the Ss  questions.
Mystery Box: Divide the class into teams again.  When a team answers a question correctly, they can either keep the mystery box, or give it to another team.  The team with the most points gets a prize.  (I deleted some of my own pictures, so you can edit the game however you like)

Thanks again to all the makers of the original games!

Grade 3 Lesson 8- Short stories

Intro:  Talk about stories
Video:  Ask Ss if they know the story of the Turtle and the Rabbit.  Watch the video (It's a little different than the original story, but they seem to enjoy it anyway.)
Parts of Speech:  Talk about different parts of speech.  Ss say as many words as they can think of, and the T writes them down on the blackboard.
Mad Libs:  Pair the Ss with a partner (at least 17 groups) and give them a piece of paper and a number  The pairs must write down a word associated with their number.  (Ex: team 1= friend's name, 2= friends name, etc.)
After they finish writing a word, enter their words in the ppt to make a mad lib story.  (This part takes a long time, so maybe give them another task while the T enters the words.)  Then, read the story together.  Try to have the Ss translate the story in Korean.  It should produce lots of laughter.
Illusions:  If time allows, show some illusions.  Ss answer for prizes.

Sorry if the directions sound confusing.  Thanks again to the original maker of the illusion ppt!

Grade 1 Lesson 8 - Idioms

Intro Powerpoint and pass the bomb game for grade one. I've taken some of the idioms from the book and added others. I've also used what I believe to be the correct meaning of some of the ones in the book as well as the book meaning. I haven't included all the idioms from the book. The bomb game came from here but I added my own pics etc. I've also taken a pic out of the bomb game because it's of my friend and I wouldn't want to upset him by having it circulated in Korea! The students will pass around an Angry Bird toy in the bomb game. I will probably get them to all stand up. Uhmmm, that's about it I think... I hope to get lot of presentations in at the end so hope to spend about 20-25 mins on the into/bomb game, 5-10 mins writing a role play and 10-15 mins presenting. I hope this helps someone!

EDIT: Found a few errors in the PPTs which I have now corrected. I have uploaded the new files. I hope I haven't missed any!

Grade 1 Lesson 8

Here is a board game (from earlier in this thread that I changed to suit this lesson) and a list of idioms (most from the book and a couple I added). When they land on the idiom they must say the meaning and vice versa. I'm sure there are ways to tweak the rules to make it a little more interesting/fun/challenging.

Grade 2 Lesson 8

I found this worksheet to go along with 3 "Odd Animal Partners" videos. I'm letting the students watch each video twice and then go over the answers with them. I also made some really simple and quick ppt's to go over the answers.

I was only able to download one of the videos so here are links to the other two:

Here's my lesson for Grade 2 lesson 8 part 1.
I couldn't base a whole lesson on just the expressions 'Excuse me?' 'Pardon?' and 'Sorry?' so I focused more on how to repeat what you say in a different way.

Grade 3 - Lesson 8 - "Short Stories and Hidden Wisdom"

Development: I have to teach Listen and Speak pt. 1 and so I decided to focus the rest of the lesson on "How long does it take...?"/"It takes me..." which is the dialogue for C.
Then I show an interactive PPT (taken elsewhere on waygook) that ends with the students having to write down three of their own "How long" sentences in their book.

Activity: Hot Potato - PPT with instructions and 2 slides at the end that show the music I played during the game. For three classes I tried playing with the entire class and with 2 balls, marked 1 and 2, so that the person who was holding ball 1 when the music stopped would ask the question and person with ball 2 would answer. While the benefit was being able to know the students were actually speaking English during the game the downside was that it got a little chaotic and always ended with boys chucking the balls at each other. Maybe if you have smaller classes this would work out better but I have changed it to groups (of 5-6 students) each having one ball and the person holding the ball when the music stops asks the question and the person to their right answers.

MS Grade 3. Lesson 8. Listen & Speak 1.
Target Language: "How long does it take you to .....?"

This lesson is a series of team games designed to introduce and practice the above target language - an easy lesson giving students a break from the "oh shit we've still got 4 months of school left" blues.

PPT & Lesson Plan attached.

Grade 1 Lesson 9

Here is a Battleship game focusing on the past tense and an instructional ppt to go with it. Teams of 2 play against each other using the phrases to guess where the other team's ships are. First team to sink all of the other teams ships wins.

teaching "I can't believe it!" and "who" (I'm the one one/he's the one who/she's the one who etc) with added vocabulary. The handout teaches extra vocab to go with the PPT. Then play bingo!

I finally got my own account (formerly masquerading as Deva)!!! Has anyone got any more ideas for Grade 2 lesson 8 please? I'm really struggling to feel inspired by this chapter; indeed I've found that all the Grade 2 lessons are a bit crap compared to the Grade 1 and 3 books (which are still crap but I've been able to mash something decent together!). Thanks

Grade 2 Lesson 8- Animals and Excuse me

Intro:  Talk about animals.  Ask Ss about their favorite animals.
Group Game:   Divide class into groups.  Give each group one piece of paper.  Groups must guess the correct animal.  After guessing, add up the correct answers for each group.  Groups get one spin from the lucky wheel (attached) for each correct answer.  The team with the most points gets a prize.
Excuse Me:  Review the expression "excuse me" with the Ss.
Codebreaker:  Divide the class into the same groups.  Give them a codebreaker sheet (A=23 B=24, etc.).  Show a sentence and the groups must write down the answer on the whiteboard.  The first team to finish is the winner.

Thanks to the original maker of the Excuse me ppt!

Planned out my lessons for unit 9 of all levels. I teach the warm-up, listen & speak, and tune-in sections, but really I can do my own thing as long as I cover that material in the two weeks that the students focus on the lesson. Here are some power points that I've stolen and modified as well as some new stuff. I've also included lesson plans for reference.

ME1 Lesson 9 -- Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch (practice past tense)
The Grease Summer Nights activity is found buried in these threads. Here are the links to the two videos. Play the music video first for comprehension, and then the lyrics for the dictation worksheet.

Grade 2 lesson about ordering food in a restaurant

For those of you with quite a lot of freedom, here's what I started with Grade 2 today instead of focusing too much on Lesson 8 (which I thought was boring). I took a very professionally put together PPT from somewhere on Waygook and took loads out and changed some (there were SO many pics that it would have taken 30 mins just to look at them all without much student participation!). The PPT is quite self explanatory. After eliciting what they think the class is about I show then the pics of the Korean and Western restaurant and get them to tell me the difference (loads of side dishes to be shared vs one starter and main dish per person). To get them in the zone I also elicited foreign foods and stuck some of them on the board separating their suggestions into starters and mains. Even level D students were able to tell me the difference when I asked why they were in different lists (starter and mains). Then the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs for a few mins and then we play the board game which I adapted from the third grade one on here to practise the main ordering food part. The board game has gone down unexpectedly well with all my students! They get mega excited. Then I get the higher level ones to write their own menu and the lower ones I put a menu on each table. I draw their tables on the board and the number of students round each table circling that S 2 should stay and be waiter and then draw arrows to show the other Ss moving. Hope this helps someone!
