There is suppose to be a Hangul-Hancom reader out there, but the website I used to download it from is down. Open Office also has the ability to open .hwp files if they are old enough ('97). Wikipedia has a good article about it all, with some work-arounds and includes a link to the viewer (which is currently down):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul_%28word_processor%29

I need to download the reader myself, so if anyone else knows where I could get it that would be sweet.

I'm teaching at a new school with LOTS of high level students. I feel bad for them having to use these books. Is anyone else having trouble getting them to participate and not fall asleep out of boredom?

For those of you who are new teachers, new to these books (or still looking for ideas for chapter 1), these are the activities I rocked for first and second grade of think and write thus far. I just used the concept of a running dictation race, and adapted it for both grades. The text book activity itself seems to take up a lot of the time, so just this one activity as supplementary edutainment are enough for me. (But have stuff prepped to make use of 10 - 5 minutes spare if your kids are higher-level).

The way this running dictation works is to print the 6 different sheets and then stick a cover sheet (flap style from the top) over each of them. You then you stick the 6 different sheets up around the classroom in accessible places. Put the students in teams of 4-6 and give them each a worksheet. The game is a race in which one member of the group runs up to a sheet, reads the information and returns to tell the rest of the group what it says. They can (and always have to) return multiple times to the sheet to get the info. Everybody writes down what they say on their worksheets. When they have completed the info for 1 person, the nest person in the group goes to get the info for the next person. The winning team is the team who gets all the information first, spelled 100% correctly etc.

The kids really love this one and if you don't use it for this specific chapter or activity, I recommend adapting it and using it for something (especially at this time while the first graders are still innocent and motivated by inner-drive.

So the one for G1 is for grade one, the one for G2 is for grade two, just in case you were confused there.  ;)

Hi Everyone! i am also using the pink, yellow and green textbooks! Thank you for sharing your lesson plans! I am new to this website and can't figure out where I'm supposed to download the lesson plans everyone is sharing. I need some help.

You need to make 5 posts in order to have access to download lesson plans. Go make 4 more comments on any post anywhere on this website, and the magic of Waygook will be opened to you.

Also, just for new teachers in general, I was in your exact same position last year, starting out with these books having never stepped foot inside a classroom anywhere on this planet and feeling OUT of my depths. The best advice I can give about using the lessons provided on waygook.org is NOT to use them straight up as you find them, but go through them and personalize them while you are still finding your feet. (It will appear that you have put more effort in that you might actually have and make a better first impression on your colleges). Every lesson does NOT need a bomb game. Concepts (such as the running dictation concept I posted above this) can be adapted for almost anything. Don't just look for a game or a concept that is specifically designed for that EXACT lesson that you are teaching, but look through the PLETHORA and by "PLETHORA", I mean PLETHORA of games and activities on this site and change and adapt them for the concept that you are teaching. Take heart, it gets easier, believe it or not.

For those of you who are brand-spanking new to this site, stop by these places first and behold the thousands of possibilities lurking within these templates:

Bomb games typically get students speaking more than they would if you ask them to practice the dialoges in the text book. But I am saving the bomb-games for the end of the semester when they don't want to do anything and I need to burn time most.

make four more posts, and start downloading some of the materials in the thread. I incorporate the book material into worksheets and student role playing.  Jecheon 4 life!

I appreciate the advice. Will do, however, my school wants me to do all of the "Listen & Speak" lessons and "Let's Communicate," as is... Only after finishing that can I do supplementary lessons. U know, teaching to the test. Any advice? I thought my book at my old school as bad, but this series is terrible.

Grade 2 lesson 1 goals
This is the lesson I'm using to talk about goals with the students this week.  It has worked really well with both high and low level classes, although the lowlevel classes need more time so we do not always get to the last activity.

Basicly I start out with the ppt.  When I ask "What are some of your goals"  I will ask 4-6 students what their goals are and write them on the board.  Then after we talked about the difference between long term and short term goals I go back to the goals I wrote on the board and ask about each goal.  Is it a long term goal or a short term goal.  Then I continue with the ppt.

For the last activity I have them write on the back of the work sheet.

I hope this will help some of you out.

Here's a prezi I did for Grade 1 Lesson 1: Meet My Friends

http://prezi.com/1rgfewrneftq/grade-1-lesson-11-meet-my-friends/

Enjoy!

I went through the lesson and then made them introduce their friends. Then we played a celebrity guessing game. Went over really well.

And a prezi for Grade 2, Lesson 1: Design Your Year

http://prezi.com/9t9fsvtyzco_/grade-2-lesson-11-design-your-year/

We made a class chart with similar goals on it and then I had the students decide if they're accomplished their goals from the year before or not and then make new goals.

Example: Last year I wanted to read 500 books. I didn't do it. This year my goal is to read 100 books. I can do it!

I revised those earlier posts yet again.  (But now my teacher doesn't want me to do the speaking ad listening part.  So, I will summarize some phrases and random things from each chapter.)  I'm more book based one week.  The other week, I do something less tied to the phrases.  But, still have to do something related to the themes of each chapter.

I revised these with phrases and added some other peoples items.  Hope it helps.  Grade One (Lesson Two to Six).

I mean the second week, I have 95% freedom.  Not so strict.  So, I make my own powerpoints and exercises.  Submitted a couple a ways back as an example.

Here are the same as above, but for Grade two (Lesson 1 hrough 6).

Feel free to edit as you see fit....

I am using all of these book aswell...they are painful at times! The topics are often uninteresting and very random at times...
Grade 1 meet my friends is fine, i feel the class goes by quite quickly and i need to prepare some more activities to fill up time in some classes.
I think its quite hard to prepare interesting lessons around the grade 2 book, especially the first chapter-design your year!

I have been told i must use the book which is easy for me but listen and speak on repeat...come thursday im bored!
I have the teachers handbook for grade 3 which really helps.

Readiing through this post i think there is a few people in my position aswel...heres hoping the chapters liven up a bit!  :o

Here is a game for Grade 1, Chapter 1, Let's Communicate.
Actually, it could be used as a filler game for any occasion, I suppose.
It is a word grab game. A WGG is also a highly adaptable concept and can be used to as a game for almost any theme. I have used this concept for many a different types of lessons (including just random quizzes as fillers) and it is always a hit.

WGG works as follows:
Print out the answers (there are a couple of red-herrings in there too)
Stick them on the board.
Get the kids into teams (4 usually works best for me).
Get a runner from each team (A different runner for each question). The runner must go and stand at the back of the classroom.
Then put up the question or picture pertaining to the answer. If they can guess what the answer is, then they need to run up to the board and grab the answer off of it. The first runner to get the correct answer gets a point for the team. In this specific game, I use a written clue first and then a picture reveal slide. If they can guess the answer from the clue only, they get 2 points. If they can only guess it when the picture is being revealed, then 1 point. If they take the wrong answer, then -1 point.
It has the potential to get REALLY wild, so just be careful. If they are all simultaneously going for the same answer and they little hands all land on it at the same time, brace yourself.

Grade 3 Lesson 2 Special Memories Listen and Speak 1. I found this elsewhere on this site. I used this during my Winter Camp and they loved it. Especially boys! Just substitute the key phrases from the chapter, "Do you think I should...? You'd better...."

My phrases are based on ones from the book, except I made them more comical.  The more funny you can be, the more the kids will pay attention.

This is an alternative to the previous choose your own adventure game. Grade 3 Lesson 2 Listen and Speak 1. I've edited it to practice the key phrase "Do you think I should....." I found the game on this site. It's better for lower levels. The language is more basic.

Attached is a word document with 12 cards to cut out for a game of Go Fish.
4 sets per group of 5 students. Make sure they're mixed up.
Each player gets 4 cards. Put the remaining stack in the middle.
Players must not show their cards to anyone. Player A chooses another player and says for example "Would you like some pizza?" If the player B has the pizza card he must give it to player A. Player A now has a match. He puts his matching pair on the table. If Player B doesn't have the pizza card he says, "Go Fish". And player A must pick another card from the pile.
If a player runs out of cards they must pick up 1 card on their next turn.
If the middle cards run out, keep asking questions in turn.
The player with the most matches wins.
You can put a time limit of 5 mins on it. The player with the most matches at the end of that time wins.
