Here's a pass the bomb game that I made, combining Unit 8, Listen & Talk 1 and 2 (Redone from a different lesson made by user annekat - whose stuff I love, btw! Thanks to her!)

This looks great!  Thanks so much. It's so difficult sometimes to get my 3rd graders to speak, but this ought to do the trick.

Grade 2 Chapter 9
Listen and Speak 2
"Are you interested in ... ?"

Here is a running diction for Grade 2.  First go over the dialogue.  It's not hard, but my teachers specifically asked me to cover it.  Then, to get the students up and out of their chairs, you do a running dialogue.  Put the students in groups of 4-6.  (Size doesn't really matter, some students will just repeat).  One student is the Reader and one is the writer.  The reader will go to the "Character Sheets' spread around the room and memorize it.  He comes back to the writer and tells him.  Then they switch.  This way everyone gets to write, memorize, and run around.  The first team to show me their paper completed and with no grammar/spelling errors wins.  If you catch them cheating (same person writing or reading), I take their worksheet and give them a new one.

It can take some time explaining, but with a little help from a co-teacher it works out no problem. I once had a teacher tell me there was "no way it would work" and then, nicely and with a big smile on my face, showed her she was wrong.  :)

Hope this helps!

Grade 3
Lesson 7- vacation/4days in austria

I have a few very low level 3rd grade classes and the textbook is way to advanced for them. I have combined a couple lessons that I found and tried to put them together to have a more structured and simpler lesson for these specific students.

Grade 2 lesson 8  Animals Should and Should not

I focused on the language"you should..." and "you should not..." for this lesson.
The power point is about what you should and shouldn't do when you see wild animals- Mountain lions, Sharks, Black bears, and Snakes.

This lesson did not go over as well as I expected, but in each class there were at least a few students who were really into it.

First I went through the power point.
Then for high level classes I had them fill out an animal worksheet in groups.  To check their memory and comprehension.
For the low level classes I skipped that and did the other activity.  I had them write about some one or something they don't like.  How to avoid it, what to do when you see it, and what to do when it attacks.  Many of the students wrote about teachers, parents, and some about bees, and spiders.  some of the things they came up with were funny.

I hope some of you can use this.

Grade 1 Chapter 8 -  I think....

This lesson is getting the students to practice opinions.  I initially tried to include a couple slides to show them "I think" sometimes just means uncertainty, but it seemed to confuse them, so I hid the slides.

So first we do a short warm up with some optical illusions.  Next, I introduce the material and then we play some Pictionary (This list has "Cider" as one of the words, but it was too difficult so I took that one out).  Finally, I play a music video and ask the students what they think about different things.

The song I used for the music is "Little Secrets" by Passion Pit.  You can rip it off YouTube if you want to use the same music video.

Grade 3 Chapter 8 & 9
Chapter 9: "Do you mind ... ?"  (I think Listen and Speak 2)
Chapter 8: Proverbs

Hello guys. This is my lesson material for Grade 3 Chapter 9.  It's a bit of a combination.

First we practiced the dialogue from Listen and Speak 2 (G3 Ch9 Dialogue practice).  "Do you mind...?"  It helped that the students had gone over it with the Korean teachers in their class first.  Then we played the "pass the bomb" game that cejacobs uploaded.  This worked with 2 out of 3 of my classes. (One class just didn't care about anything so I wouldn't count that as a real strong indication of it not working).

Then we moved on (or backwards) to proverbs/life lessons (Ch 8).  There is an easy and hard version.  I tried the hard version with my first two classes, and then had to simplify it because 2 strike out.  I verbally attempted to explain each proverb after the slides...not sure if that was successful, so maybe some amping up (extra pictures or a slide showing the meaning) would be better.

Hope this helps anyone.  For me, midterms is in 2 weeks so next week is review week. :)

Grade 3 Lesson 8

To introduce the lesson, I start out by doing my usual greeting, and moving into a warm-up of a task that might take some time.  I am thinking a match stick brain puzzle.  I will put the students in teams of two to do this, and will time them to see who can do it the fastest.  Once each team finishes I will give them their time.  I will then introduce the main phrase for the chapter of "How long does it take you to..." and use this to ask the students how long it took them to complete the task.  I will also give them the proper response of "It takes me...."

I know this is a bit easier with smaller class sizes, but can easily be adapted with other activities to introduce the concept of "how long it takes'' to do something.  You could come up with a task that the whole class has to complete or something along those lines.

I hope this can help some out there!

Thanks! That's a great idea! My 3rd graders need something to wake them up at the beginning of class.

How do you play the match stick brain puzzle? Whenever I see them in ppt. I am baffled because I can't understand how to play it.

Can someone also tell me how to play "round robin" in the classroom?

The powerpoint for Chapter 9 is fantastic! Since I've been using the school's computer to make my ppts, I have no idea how to tweak anything because it's all in Korean. I must say that I am quite jealous.

Grade 2 Chapter 7, 8, 9
Review

Here is my review for Grade 2.

To make my questions, I looked at the first page of each lesson and copied the Forms and Functions.  Then I went to the Activities books (blue for grade 1, pale pink for grade 2, and hot pink for grade 3) and looked for examples.  This way I'm not using the main text book from class, but all the questions and answers are from a level they should be able to do.   Also, some chapters have major themes: Ch 8 has animals and Ch 7 is heros.  And then I took a question from each section (Ch 7, 8, 9, Animals, and Heros) and rotated the questions so everything was fairly equally covered.

I give out candy to the winning team (I give out candy three times during the semester.  First week, midterm and finals review).

Hopes this helps anyone!

Hey I am going to post my lesson for Ch 7: Small Steps for a Better Tomorrow.

The powerpoints are very simple. I try to use pictures and words to describe "Biomes" and environments (desert, rain forest and arctic). Afterward I have them do a worksheet and then we play a game (KABOOM) where they pull words out of a hat (rainy, humid, dry, sunny, etc) and have to use them in a sentence:

"In the ________ (desert/rainforest/arctic) the weather is (word chosen) and (word they thought of)" If the person gets it right the team gets a point, first to ten wins. One of the cards is KABOOM which lets the drawer take away all the points of any team they chose.

Powerpoint is "so-so" but I feel the worksheet is solid

Here's a lesson I used for Lesson 8.

So how my classed work, I teach the lets communicate part & structure
my lesson around what students are taught in English class with the Korean teacher.
Each class gets taught twice a week, once by the KT & then by me.
The powerpoint starts with a video & the idiom students have to guess, which is "A Lemon".
It then goes into a quick review and some of the idioms mentioned in the text book.

I used the text book activity in the middle & finish of the lesson with the Bomb game.
The bomb game was a template i downloaded from waygook, but just added in my own info.

*Please not, some of the slides contain pictures of me & you just have to change the pics
& some of the text.  I had lots of fun teaching this lesson so I hope it works well for all of you!!

Cheers

Grade 2 review 7-9.

First, I start off class by doing a review of the grammar points in lessons 7, 8, 9.  Groups of 6.  They get a point or 2 for answering questions.  For example, "What did we study in lesson 7?"  (Ss - What are you good at.)  "2 points.  Next, answer the question for 1 point.  What are you good at?"  (I'm good at sleeping.)  "I've noticed, how about this." Write down 'I'm good at play soccer' on the board.  "2 points.  Is this good or bad?  Why?" (I'm good at playING soccer.) and etc.

This review should take 20-25 minutes.  Draw out the questions.  Ask for Korean translations if you covered it.

PPT game is 8 questions covering material from 7-9.  It should be about 10-15m.  At the thief portion, ask students "How many points do you want to take?/How many points?"
You get what you give :)

First of all, thanks for the ppt and lesson!  It was okay for one class but I explained it better in the second class and it went over well.  But, there's something I have to ask.  I kept the pictures of you and the boybands and there was a debate going on about the 2nd boy band.  Is that Infinite or U-kiss?  The class was divided!  Thanks.

Can you upload it again? I can't seem to make it open on my laptop.  It seems very useful and I'd like some idea to put into my 2nd graders review day as well. :D

Is anyone else having trouble? with this file?
