If anyone uses my work, can you please tell me, because I'm feeling a little disheartened at the lack of comments on my lessons.

I'm aware that they aren't the most polished ppts and some of the worksheets are flawed but some criticism might be helpful. At the moment I feel like I'm posting to a brick wall not a forum. Rant over.

Sorry i have not posted anything i am getting pulled left right and Centre with different Directions, i go to complete a lesson and as we all know i then get told to Change it all so although in Theory your lessons look fab i end up doing boring Text book only "as little games as possible as the students are concerned at the speed of the lessons and how much there is to get through." I will Try Lesson 3 and stick to it but yes if i was not told to JUST do the books then i would be using your Lessons.
Hence there is no lesson plans coming from me either !
Sorry Guys xx

Sorry Dsob xx Keep up the Hard Work i love reading your lessons.

don't be disheartened dsob.  I look at everyone's lessons, steal the best bits and store more for future reference too.  I don't have time to comment on them all or even acknowledge the posts, but they are all appreciated.

You have found some great photos and I'll be stealing your riddles too.  I'd use your lesson wholesale for my Grade 2 but I don't think any of them are hoping to marry Ji Sung Park or be a model - or at least they won't be admitting it while they are still at a boys' middle school.  :o

I realise that I sound more annoyed that I actually was / am.

Obviously you steal buts from all over and combine them into your Frankenstein lesson and then upload it here for someone else to do the same all over - thats the point.

Yeah it was just that only 2 people before me had posted in the last few days, I just felt like the group needed a kick in the ass so everyone kept contributing. This group has been really helpful so far and I didnt want it to die, slowly rotting away on some server somewhere!

@dsob - Part of it is that alot of us are probably uploading lessons just to give back.  I was an unrepentant thief last year.  This year I have figured out what works for me and am using 95% of my own material.  I'm sure your lessons are great, but I have an idea for the year that I want to see through as long as it keeps working as well as it is.  If a new person starts to give back to the site, take that as a complement to your efforts and the rest.

dsob, you've been a lifesaver! Your lessons have helped me figure out how to partition lessons so that students focus on a certain goal rather than just learning everything helter-skelter. I also like your idea of using different examples of the same basic structure. I've had to add more to the powerpoint for my lower levels lesson, changed/added some pictures for clarification purposes and so I can ask them questions, but they're very self-explanatory.

Grade 1, lesson 1: Interview and introduce your friend  (My students had problems understanding "interview" and that they                  would have to write down their partner's answers, so some graphics/slides to explain)
Grade 1, lesson 1: Introduce yourself (I added a "Where are you from?" review to the end)
Grade 1, lesson 2: Various ways to say "How are you" and works on dialogue, "Are you interested in...?"
Grade 1, lesson 3: Birthdays (Talks about different birthday traditions, students design their dream party, and then practice the giving present dialogue on page 38A)

I give my Grade 2s lots of writing.
Grade 2, lesson 1: Long time no see fill-in-the-blank, then practice dialogue activity (includes my classroom rules)
Grade 2, lesson 1: Yujin for President, added another fill-in-the-blank
Grade 2, lesson 2: Hobbies, added fill-in-the-blank
Grade 2, lesson 3: Giving Advice (pg 48, part A. Many examples depending on how much time you have, I also made slackers stand up and perform the dialogue for the whole class)

A lot of these are ppts I've found, so I can't take credit for them except for one or two. *sheepish*

Maybe this should be its own thread (or maybe it already is) but I've been looking for songs to use for the "sounds" section in each chapter. I plan to play the song in class and hand out the lyrics. The kids would then listen to the song and circle/underline examples of the sounds I'm teaching, perhaps with a prize for the student who finds the most examples of the sounds. As of now I have "With a Little Help from My Friends" (Beatles) for the "L" sound/silent "L" box on pg. 13 of the grade 2 book, as well as "Walk the Line" (Johnny Cash) for the "i" sound on pg. 27 of the grade 1 book. I'll continue searching and posting good songs and if you think this is a good idea I hope you'll respond with other songs. Thanks!

I think this is a fabulous idea!  I am going to use Walk the Line next week with my Grade 1s!  I'll let you know how it goes.  How does the flow work with your classes? I'm searching for songs too!  Right now I'm on a search for Grade 2, Lesson 2 sounds - "o" using post/potato/tomato/low/grow/...  Anyone have any ideas?  The search is coming up empty.

I realised I never posted my second lesson to grade 3 - lesson 2 - What are friends for

This is just the writing part so it is quite short. I use the battleships timetable that the class made in the previous lesson.

Glad you like the idea! Definitely, let me know how "Walk the Line" goes as I'm doing that one later in the week. The Beatles worked great. Usually I'll go over the textbook box first and have them read the words in the box and identify the difference in pronunciation, then do a short explanation of the pronunciation rules. Then I hand out the lyrics and play the song twice while they read along and circle one type of pronunciation (like silent "L"s) and underline the other (like pronounced "L"s). After playing the song twice I'll have them shout out the words they found while I write them on the board. After giving the word they must say whether the "L" is silent or pronounced. I will think about the "O" sound but of course this lesson won't work for all sounds and I wouldn't go crazy trying to find a song to fit every sound. Let me know what other songs you find!

I decided to follow your lead and use a song to highlight some phonics in this lesson. Here are the lyrics to 'Day-O/Banana Boat song" with highlighted answers for long and short O sounds. I've attached a ppt on long and short vowels I got from someone else on waygook (sorry..don't remember but thanks a lot!) which I used to review basic long and short vowel sounds.

I used the clip from Beetlejuice where they get possessed at dinner and sing the song. The kids loved it. A quick search on youtube is all you need to do.

Finally, I attached a more advanced phonics chart should you get any tough questions. Be aware it's based on American pronunciation and may not reflect your accent.

Thanks for sharing this salabbe! I have to teach from the textbook, but I'm sure I'll run into a random schedule change unprepared soon. It sounds so fun, I can't wait to use it!

I haven't posted my lessons as I seem to be chasing my tail this week, plus I haven't been really happy with some of them.  I have been using www.barryfunenglish.com pretty successfully though.  Has anyone else tried it?  I subscribed for 6 months for less than the price of a pitcher of Hite and can upload my own vocab lists and images which I've copied and pasted from the Ji Hak Sa CD so they are really relevant.

Bloody hell, Grade 1 lesson 3: "I'm glad to meet you. Let me introduce my mother." Have I not spent the past 4 weeks teaching introductions already?! No wonder Grade 2 and 3 kids hate English, they know they will be learning the same thing for weeks in a row!!!

Have you any ideas? I have to start teaching "Sorry I'm late, let me introduce my mother" speaking part Wednesday. T_T I was thinking about making it a lesson of introducing family to friends, but not sure how to incorporate the late thing.

I did it, after practicing with the book's audio files and some ppt slides, with a game from www.barryfunenglish.com.  I made a word list using the places/people from the book then played a 'Lucky Dice' game where students just had to make a sentence from the picture to be able to 'bet' on their choice.  It was surprising how many were still struggling to say even simple sentences without the book to read from.

I'll post my ppt tomorrow, but without the online games they don't help much I'm afraid.

And anyway, what are we all doing on here at this time of night?

Haven't come up with any brainwaves yet, I'm still trying to figure out what the point of listening exercise B on page 36.

Quote
K: Sorry I'm late
Y: No problem
K: Happy Birthday Yujin
Y: Thanks Kevin. I'd like you to meet my mother. Mom, this is my friend, Kevin. Kevin, this is my Mom.

Sure this is a legitimate conversation - if you are late and it happens to be your friends birthday AND he happens to have not met your Mother yet. But it just seems like a mess of a conversation to work through and explain. Bah, I might just throw the book away for this lesson. I can see the things they want to teach, but of all the lessons so far this one seems to have had the least thought put into it!

I'm lucky in that my teachers don't care how much I use the book, as long as I cover material that they will be tested on. Therefore, as long as I do the lines in the speaking and function file parts, they don't care how I present it. I haven't used any of the audio or exercises from the book because not only is my Toshiba Windows 7-OS laptop too advanced for the CD to install, I find the stilted actors really irritating.

Maybe I can make it a boyfriend-girlfriend, meet the parents thing. ;D ... Except my co-teachers this semester aren't the cleverest or willing to emote as my previous ones. T_T

Think I'm going to focus on the birthday and giving gifts in my first lesson. 2nd lesson will be about being late/apologising/introducing someone else.

Found this Mr Bean video which I'm going to play at the start of the lesson. Will ask questions about what is happening after to lead into the topic
