I am looking at Grade 3 Lesson 4 - Two Anecdotes cover, page 61 on my latest edition of the book.

Does anyone know who the two people on the opposite sides of Abe Lincoln are?

To Lincolns right, Thomas Edison; To Lincolns left, Marie Curie!

Hi,

Here is my version of grade 1 revision mario game, lessons 1-3.

For some weird reason it won't let me save the ppt onto my thumb drive. I've tried to save it in different formats from the usual but it still won't work. I also tried opening it from the internet on the computer in the classrooms but that just wouldn't even open the file. I even tried making a new file but the copy didn't work the same as the original. I wanted to use it for a review today since I have a lot of grade 1 classes today...poor kids. guess I'll be teaching today.

I’ll be doing these activities with Grades 1 and 2 after the midterm tests. Some of the materials have been adapted from others who posted on Waygook.

Grade 1 Lesson 4A: Clothes Bingo (20 minutes)

I divide students in teams of 4.
I give each team a laminated clothes bingo sheet and tokens to cover the squares with (I use laminated black squares, about the size of 1 bingo square.
Then I call a volunteer to come to the front and choose laminated sentences from a bag, example “I’m wearing brown pants”. Teams then cover that picture on their bingo sheets.
The volunteer keeps reading sentences from the bag. The first team to have 1 bingo, shouts ‘BINGO!”, and gets 2 points.
The volunteer continues reading sentences until the 2nd team shouts bingo (and gets 1 point)
This marks the end of the first game. Teams clear their bingo sheets, teacher chooses a new volunteer, and the next game starts.

Grade 2 Lesson 4A: Ordering (20 minutes)

Divide students in groups of 4.
Give each team a menu and 2 dialogue sheets.
Teams have 7 minutes to complete and memorize dialogue sheets.
Volunteers present in front of the class.
To encourage other teams to listen, ask questions, ie. Tell me 5 things they ordered.

Here is my lesson that I used. The production exercise at the end they do in pairs. Basically they choose to call someone (anyone they want). They must leave a message. I didn't let the students leave until they had each read their conversation to me. Worked really welll.

Here is a video I used with the Presentation too:

Grade 1 chapter 4, covering speaking section.

Used/changed slides from a good clothes powerpoint earlier in this thread. I'm also using both speaking activities from the book (with fill in the blank worksheets, high level). Finishing with the minesweeper game, for which I changed a few things. I may, however, use the bingo game that was posted by mich (thanks!), which is why there is a slide for it at the end of the powerpoint. I have never used minesweeper but I'm sure it will be fun :)

Hey I was looking at some of these bomb games (great stuff by the way). And I was wondering, how is it that you guys pulled the images from the cd roms? I keep trying but it wont let me select anything.

If anyone is looking for a short video relating to grade 2 chapter 4, this is a funny clip from the cartoon Mr.Bean show. Gonna use it as a warm up before my lesson.

I usually take a screen shot and then just crop it in Paint.

While the image is still selected (moving ants/light blue dashes), click and drag the midpoints on the lengths and widths until you've cropped it to what you want.
Before you create a thread, remember waygook.org has a search engine! Please help keep the redundancy down. Do a little research of your own before making a thread in case the information is already available.

Grade one lesson four fashionable or not.
This is just a quick intro game to the chapter.I made it last year when was still figuring out how to make games so it may be a few glitches in it. It's very easy so you may want to make it a bit more challenging but it's just an introduction and not a review. It will take about 15 minutes

Here is my lesson for grade 2 lesson 4.

I created a word search that includes unfamiliar words in the power point, and a slide with their translations in Korean.
(10 minutes)

Power point highlighting some of the strangest restaurants in the world. Perhaps a translator would increase comprehension, but the kids should find it interesting regardless. (5-7 minutes)

Then we are going to do the restaurant role play that was previously posted.
(10 minutes)

Having finished that, I will give each team a whiteboard and magic marker. I will shout out my order, and the students need to look at the menu and calculate my bill. If you want, have them write the listed items as well. First team with the correct calculation is the winner.  (10 minutes)

You can also play this game by lining the students in two rows. Have a timer going (anywhere from 2-5 minutes should do) Shout out a listed item, and the first student that calls out the correct price can sit down. The loser heads to the back of the line. The team with the most people sitting down at the end of the allotted time is the winner.

To finish the lesson, we'll watch a short youtube clip from Man Vs. Food, a show in which the host takes on a wide array of food challenges. (5 minutes)

Here's what I did for Grade 3 Lesson 4. I started class with an intro about May in America (taken from Waygook somewhere). I do 2 weeks per lesson so the first week (4a) is using "supposed to".  I showed some examples and played the "sunken treasure game" where students make a sentence using "you're supposed to....." Then they choose a number. I keep both powerpoints running at the same time, you have to toggle between them using the "alt+tab" keys. I use a pc I'm not sure how that works on macs, but you cannot close the sunken treasure powerpoint after you have started clicking numbers or else it will reset. Once a student finds the sunken treasure I let them choose either a chocolate or "super prize". My "Super prize" bag is a collection of junk from my apartment, today I gave away a hairdryer that was left in my apt by the last tenant, a package of weather stripping, and a plastic monkey. The kids think it is hilarious. Obviously you won't be able to deliver the lesson the same way I do, but feel free to adapt/change/delete anything you want. Hope its usefull.

Bomb game for Grade 3 Chapter 4, focusing on only "you're supposed to" and "I hope ___" key phrases. There are 20 questions, so ignore the 'round 2' home page.  Several of the slides I got from someone else who posted a similar game.  Most of the questions are a short dialogue, so 2 students from the group will have to read for their group to get the points. Before the game, I'll be doing a few of the activities in the book that deal with those phrases.  My second lesson on this chapter will focus on "I forgot about that".

The lesson is about expressing obligations and expressing hope. The reference to the time isn't the important focus in that lesson. Look at page 48 in your teachers manual if you have one, it has all the key expressions and lesson objectives for each chapter :)

I've attached my lesson plan and PPT for Grade 3 Lesson 4A. It is about creating rules/obligations in various situations (swimming pool, boyfriend/girlfriends etc). The video I made for it is here:

Hey

Did anyone prepare a speaking test for all grades of this book?
i have to do prepare a last min test as no-one else seemed to do it.... It has to be 5 questions per grade using this "resourceful" textbook. :-X
Just wondering if anyone has a format or something just to see how you did it?

thanks,

Tom
