Every textbook mentioned thus far bears no resemblance to the ones I am using...I have grade 1-3..Grade 1 (Steam boat with a cat fishing), grade 2 (Bus with Big Ben in the Background), Grade 3(Kid in a hot air balloon labelled "Travel")...anyone else using these?

Hi,

Here's my Grade 3 lesson 1 ppt, I've focused on the phrases: I haven't seen you in ages/ long time no see, by doing listening/speakking activities related to these phrases. Then for the main speaking activity students imagine its 2032 and they haven't seen their classmates for 20yrs so they first think and write, then at a reunion 'party' tell classmates what they have done, e.g. I travelled the world, I got married etc.

There's no lesson plan but it should be quite straight forward, if not ask me! You'll need to remove a couple of slides that relate to a listening worksheet (not the book).

Maybe this should be its own thread (or maybe it already is) but I've been looking for songs to use for the "sounds" section in each chapter. I plan to play the song in class and hand out the lyrics. The kids would then listen to the song and circle/underline examples of the sounds I'm teaching, perhaps with a prize for the student who finds the most examples of the sounds. As of now I have "With a Little Help from My Friends" (Beatles) for the "L" sound/silent "L" box on pg. 13 of the grade 2 book, as well as "Walk the Line" (Johnny Cash) for the "i" sound on pg. 27 of the grade 1 book. I'll continue searching and posting good songs and if you think this is a good idea I hope you'll respond with other songs. Thanks!

I think this is a fabulous idea!  I am going to use Walk the Line next week with my Grade 1s!  I'll let you know how it goes.  How does the flow work with your classes? I'm searching for songs too!  Right now I'm on a search for Grade 2, Lesson 2 sounds - "o" using post/potato/tomato/low/grow/...  Anyone have any ideas?  The search is coming up empty.

Glad you like the idea! Definitely, let me know how "Walk the Line" goes as I'm doing that one later in the week. The Beatles worked great. Usually I'll go over the textbook box first and have them read the words in the box and identify the difference in pronunciation, then do a short explanation of the pronunciation rules. Then I hand out the lyrics and play the song twice while they read along and circle one type of pronunciation (like silent "L"s) and underline the other (like pronounced "L"s). After playing the song twice I'll have them shout out the words they found while I write them on the board. After giving the word they must say whether the "L" is silent or pronounced. I will think about the "O" sound but of course this lesson won't work for all sounds and I wouldn't go crazy trying to find a song to fit every sound. Let me know what other songs you find!

Hey! I really like this idea as well and I've noticed that in your lessons you have a section for sounds. Is your book translated into english? I of course could be missing the translation somewhere but I don't see it. I would really like to teach sounds through songs to the kids but I'd like to know specifically what they're being asked to learn so my lessons will be more helpful to them. Song Ideas:
Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega ("d" sound)
Blind melon - No rain ("s" sound)
FANTASTIC! Thanks a bunch! This is a great pronunciation exercise..gonna try it with my Morning advanced class..will let you know of any songs I come across..

Thank you guys so much! I just went from 12 teaching hours to 20 because they wanted me to work closer to my maximum required of 22 hours. I panicked at first, but I'm so glad I found out that others were teaching from the same book as I.

Here is my lesson for Grade 3 Lesson 1 The Best Gift for my Son.

This year I have grade 3s every week so the I am using 2 classes for 1 lesson. This week I am covering just the listening sections. I made my own videos using Xtranormal and used it in two separate classes. It seemed to go down well enough, but as always my students are never interested in listening exercises. For the rest of the listening activities I used the CD ROM. There are a few warm up activities at the start of the lesson and a MadLib game at the end, which went down very well, once they understood the how the game worked.

Almost all of the material I found on this site, so a big thank you to every one I borrowed material from. I hope it can be of some use to some people.

PPTs for Grade 1, 2 and 3: Lesson 1.

All my ppts follow the same format:
1. Boggle competition (all the students in the school play, and at the end of the month I give a prize to the person with the most words, and a proze to a lucky draw to make it all fair and square).
2. Dialogue #1 (I have made an Xtrannormal video, then my CT and I speak the dialogue for class)
3. Activity #1 is practice Dialogue #1
4. Dialogue #2 (Same as Dialogue #1)
5. Activity #2 is practice for Dialogue #2
6. Activity #3 is the main activity
7. Buy your ticket to leave the classroom (each students must speak the dialogue with the teacher before they can leave the class)

The dialogues and key phrases are all from the textbooks. I just really don't like using the CD ROM at all.

Thanks to everyone on this thread. A lot of my activities in these ppts come from this thread and elsewhere on this site, and also from the EPIK orientations in 2011.

Hey guys, I don't know how many of you are in the same boat as I am but for my grade 2's I only meet them once every other week, and I have to go over the listening/speaking sections of each lesson. I usually start off with a game and if I have time end with one, but in the middle it's GRUELLING, like pulling teeth from an angry shark!! Any suggestions?

I'm attaching two lessons.

Grade three lesson 1 "the best gift for my son". It's a summary of the key phrases followed by a written activity where they make up a story with the help of the phrases using a blank cartoon strip. I haven't taught this lesson yet so not sure if will be a success. I'm thinking to spend 25 minutes on this activity and then move onto the beloved bomb game.
My lesson for grade two's is an adaptation of a game I found in this forum. "Advice game". Coupled with a worksheet so far it has been a huge success. So thank you to the original poster :) I always make my worksheets in powerpoint and print them off separately. This is usually the last slide on the presentation.

The videos went down well in most classes, though a few girls did comment it was disgusting and one boy even said it was inappropriate material for the class. I will be toning down the next videos to make them more universally acceptable!

Do you have a link to the video?  My boys love disgusting and inappropriate.

Here are my lesson plans for the 3rd period of Lesson 1, for Grades 1,2, and 3.

For Grades 1 and 2, they are review lessons. For Grade 1, I used Big Town Cards which can be downloaded from this site:

http://www.mes-english.com/games/bigtown.php

I printed my cards out and laminated them (because they are brilliant to use in many different classes).

For Grade 3, we are finishing the xtranormal videos, and there is one short activity at the end for the groups who finish in time.
