I totally agree with you Gomdori, I aim to make my classes more student-centered this year, thanks for the files. Hopefully we can share more ideas about how to do this on here!

You guys ready for the new semester? :P

Personally, I am thinking of quickly doing the speaking part of the book, and devoting the rest of the class to speaking activities unrelated to the text.....

I have found the powerpoint + game format to be too teacher centered.....would like to have the kids talking the majority of the class.

I found what seems to be a good speaking book here...

I have the first 17 lessons all ready to go for Grade 1 - it's been a long winter and I've been able to build on what worked last year.  I'll be posting all my lessons somewhere, soon.

They will mainly be ppt / games format because it works with my classes of 25+ boys.  A quick peek at recent test scores showed that my classes are roughly divided 50/50 with kids scoring in the 20s and the rest scoring in the 90s.  Student talking (to each other) just doesn't work with that kind of ability range, at least not without a lot of manipulation and KT co-operation.   Best I can do it is make the games useful and student focused.

The TTM books are great though - I used them last year for my before and after school classes. I have adapted a few of the activities for whole class lessons, but sadly too much is too resource intense or student ability dependent to work in my classes.

Hero! I had 5 weeks of camps and didn't get around to planning for grades 1 and 2 in that time, so I'm only starting that now. Still have 2 and a half weeks though so enough to get a fair few done.

This next semester will be interesting for sure.

3rd Graders next semester...

I just wish the Textbook followed some sort of cohesion, the topics are all over the place!

As promised, these are my lessons for this term - starting with Grade 1.  The other Grades have been delayed due to being asked to do other tasks but I hope to get them in shape before long.

Most lessons follow the same formula: go through the Speaking activity of the text book followed by practice and a game for consolidation.  Each chapter lasts an average of 2 lessons with a revision class after 3 chapters.  Where possible I've brought in the vocabulary from the list on the first page of each chapter in the green Activity book.

It's not set in stone, some are more freestyle and the timing and delivery will have to accommodate all the peculiarities of the term's events as always.

The lesson plan for each lesson explains briefly how it all runs though most will be self explanatory.

Lesson 3 is in 2 (linked) parts just because it was easier to do so.

and the next 5.  Lesson 6 still lacks a game - didn't like last years and haven't decided what to replace it with yet.

Thanks DevilMogun for all the lessons.
I have one question about Lesson 1. Where can I find the online game called 'Meet Tim'. I've tried googling it, but can't find it.
Thanks

Re: Meet Tim.  does the link not work?  Just click the underlined title and it should direct you there. If not, it's

http://eflclassroom.com/flash/learning/Personal_introduction.swf somewhere on the EFL Classroom site though it's been a long time and I don't remember where I found it exactly.

Hi everyone, I just started this year teaching with this book and I just want to thank everyone for all the contribution and help as I am new and therefore completely lost and useless:P  It seems everyone likes working out of this textbook and I can only hope to have the same experience this year!  Thank you all once again and keep up the great work!

Thank you!  I'm working on Grades 2 and 3 but my vacation inspiration is evaporating as I sit waiting for this years timetable still.  Sometimes it feels like my classes are ranked 2 slots below 'school song practice' and 'the ethics of littering class'.

New here teaching! Thanks all for your amazing contributions, jst scanning throuh them now. My school teach from these textbooks, and I have been given copies of them all, though i have been told that they dont want me to teach from the textbooks, they want tme to make my own lessons and the textbooks are just for reference to see what the others are up to. So we'll see how that goes, think i might us the book, not for materials, but so i can stay in line with what topics they are covering maybe, so at least the material itself might not be brand new?

I was always encouraged to 'do whatever I want' in the class and 'just make it fun', but apart from needing to be endlessly imaginative it also means thinking up your own scheme of work and having some kind of reasoning behind doing whatever it is you decide.  Following the book does make it easier and, I find, gives my lessons a bit more validity as it is clearly related to what they need to know to pass their exams.   Beyond that there is lots of room for imagination, adaptation and sometimes veering off track a little.

Hey guys,
Another newbie here. It's my first week and they've told me all they want me to do the first week is prepare. So this thread is SUPER helpful. I am a first time teacher and I was feeling a bit directionless. I will be teaching grades 1 2 and 3, listening and speaking. I've read through the books and they don't seem that long to me, is it reasonable to think that I can teach both in one period (45mins)?

I am also new to this textbook but the way me and my co-teacher set it up is we follow the listening animations and lesson in the textbook and I plan an activity to supplement the the listening/speaking section instead of using the activity book.  I figure if you are in dire constraints and simply have nothing planned you can always fall back on the activity book as a back up.  The text book's biggest benefit from what I can tell is the fact that is comes with the computer program for each grade which will animate the dialogues, however if you are missing the computer program/installation Cd's I think writing your own lessons plans are going to be essential...
