Hi everyone,

I've got an open class on Grade 1 Lesson 5 (A Different Treasure Hunt)in a couple weeks and was wondering if anyone has made it to this yet? I'm going to do a dialogue exercise but struggling on other bits.

im going to be starting this soon...basically i will start with declining and accepting an invitation (sorry, i cant vs. sure, sounds good), then go into using past tense....

ill throw in some dialogue here and there where needed :)

Grade 2 - Lesson 4 - Bibimbap

I basically used the world foods slide from adventure_rider on http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,5494.0.html

I added a few more slides to emphasise the target language from the module. I plan on being the waiter asking them for food and they respond - on the 'what **** food would you like?' slides.

Grade 2 - lesson 4 Bibimbap

2 Part lesson on Korean food.(I got the powerpoints form Waygook somewhere, I just added a worksheet)

Part one - Students work through the worksheet while the teacher gives the different ingredients and dishes.  Conversation should be encouraged through questions.  Eg: Which is your favourite Korean dish.  What are the ingredients? How often do you eat it? Etc etc.  Give the students time to fill in the ingredients on the worksheet for the korean dishes at the end.(Print double sided to save paper:) )

Part two - Fun revision Bomb game to be played in teams.  After every question encourage conversation.

Hi all,
I've found that my students really get the key phrases in the book pounded into their heads when they play the simpsons game.  I use the first powerpoint in conjunction with the textbook so they know where these phrases are coming from.  After getting them to practice a little bit in class I pull out the simpsons game which has a mix of questions from the lesson as well as some really random and fun questions to throw them off.  Please improve and repost!

Ben

Grade 3 Lesson 4 - Two Anecdotes

10min review bomb game for target phrases ie. You're supposed to ~ I hope you~ Oh, I forgot about that. in the speaking part of lesson.

Hi all,

I was asked to do a review of GRADE 3 LESSON 1-4, so I decided to make it into a game for the kids.  This is the 20 Seconds game made by a fellow waygook, all I did was fill in the blank slides with questions from the book.

Also, I was asked to do the Writing and Wrap up sections for lesson 4, so I attached the powerpoint I made as well.

Cheers for the 20 questions game bhwung. I have been using it this week :) Oh and thanks to the original creator.

Hey guys, sorry I've been a little M.I.A.  Ah, preparing for open class and summer camps has made me ridiculously busy!
Anyways, here is my lesson for Grade 1!

I've somehow got behind on posting my latest lessons, not because I've been so busy either.  More a case of so many cancelled classes lately I've lost motivation.  Here's my latest anyway - lesson structure following the same pattern - practice key sentences from the 'speaking' pages of the chapter followed by a game.  It's what my students and co-teachers want.

When I get around to it, all will be posted on http://namhaemiddleschool.wikispaces.com/  with lesson plan and additional worksheets etc.

Hey everyone!  Hope the open classes are going well!! Glad to get mine over with!  It was a hit with the students, hope some of you found some of the pieces helpful!

Question!  I am trying to make a lesson out of Grade 1: Lesson 5, Part B: "Do you remember my friend, Susan" and "Right!"  Does anyone have any fun, creative ideas?  My mind is blank.  EEK!

Cheers!

I have also hit this giant metaphorical break wall. But in my search for inspiration in this lesson and ones past, I have discovered that the Thomas Orr textbook share several similar key phrases as our book. They're just in differently numbered lessons.

For example, in my search, "do you remember middle school", this thread showed up: http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,5121.msg44225.html#msg44225

Good luck, and please post what you end up doing as well as your students' reaction to it!
Before you create a thread, remember waygook.org has a search engine! Please help keep the redundancy down. Do a little research of your own before making a thread in case the information is already available.

Grade 2 Lesson 6- See the World Meet the People

Two-person direction-giving activity where one student gives directions and the other fills in his blank map, then they switch. You'll have to choose and draw in a starting point and should probably write down that the arrows are "entrances".

Witness my awesome Paint skills.

Giving Directions lesson

This is one I did last year.  I'm pretty sure I did this with my grades 1 and 2 last year so I probably can't get away with it for my current grade 2 and 3 (though chances are they have no memory of doing any of it.)   I began the lesson with a bit of kinaesthetic activity - get them all standing and drill left, right, straight ahead, turn right etc., writing the basic direction vocab on the board before the lesson.

Anyhow - it might be useful to some of you.  The audio is from www.elllo.org/games/game12-LG-Directions just in case the link doesn't work.

I find any audio - basically anyone speaking other than me in the room - captures their attention.  I'd be really happy to re-do this lesson with my own voice recording of directions on MP3 and swop with other people - different accents are  good and anyone but me, as mentioned, always goes down well.  Let me know if you're up for it.

I did a 'what's behind the box' game with a list of questions that the students have to answer before they remove a box and get a guess at what's behind there.  They have to guess the exact sentence according to the gapfill.  The wise ones (who bring the right equipement to class)  realise that the pictures behind the box are from their text books so they have an advantage.  I also gave them a choice of 1, 2 or 3 point questions so that they can choose their own ability level.  I used mini whiteboards for them to write the gapfill on, but it was probably more effective to write each one up on the board for them all to see.

It went down well with my first two grade 3s this week which is a good sign - they aren't easy to please.

Thanks for the game DevilMogun, I might give it a go. I was thinking more along the lines of a bomb game - the boys seem to love them!

Anyway, I have made a second powerpoint, which I'll probably use alongside blinden's map game with a few alterations for Grade 3 - See the World. This one's target language is, "I suggest you visit/see" and "How long does it take..?"

OPEN CLASS!!!

Ok everyone, as you can see I am posting this at 4:00 AM. I am going to have my open class next week, but I have to turn in my lesson plan by tomorrow.  :-\ Anyways, I just need some advice. First of all, I am going to do Grade Three (High Level) Lesson 6: Day by Day. These are my objectives:

1. Student will be able to ask for help from someone with a small task: "Would you help me clean the classroom?" (tasks).
2. Student will be able to ask for directions: " Would you help me find Everland?" (directions).

According to my co-teacher (who is freakin awesome by the way) said we need to have TWO objectives. In the book for lesson 6, it's kinda hard to do that when they have "may I have your attention please?". That is so random. So I came up with the two objectives. However, my co-teacher thinks that, just maybe, the observers will think that the objectives are redundant, but I'm kinda feeling 50/50 on that.  What are you guys' opinion? before seeing the whole lesson, as an observer would you look at these objectives and think it's redundant? Does it seem too easy for third grade lesson? just want to know your initial thought after reading the objectives. thanx.

the responses for my objectives are:

1. Sure OR Sorry, but I can't because I have homework. (i have variations for this part)
2. Sure. Go down three blocks and turn left. Go straight two blocks and turn right. You will find it on your left. (i have variations for this part as well)

:-[ ??? this is seriously how i am feeling at this moment.

Isn't the second objective TO RESPOND to requests?  After all, you will be teaching 'go straight, turn right' etc?

Grade 1 Lesoon 6 dialoge work sheet

Grade 2 Lesson 6 see the world meet the people map work sheet and page 90 speaking

This is not at all my own work! .....blinden.... got from that person I cant recall but I thought  a ppt somewhere matched the map lesson... mmm must be above on one of those downloads...

You need to go back and get the power point that goes with the map worksheet I copied for the 2nd graders - BUt I tagged on my page 90 talking back and forth so like go to page 90 and read it or watch the movies for it better yet fom the book then get students to read and listen and fill in the blanks ... Anyhow this is a better way casue you can 2bl side the papers and have te cool map on one and teh cool dialogue on the other - remeber THERE IS 4 SHEETS BUT YOU GOT TO HAVE TWO PAIRS! yeah so like if you has 26 studdes you have 13 copies of 2 and 13 copies of the other two --- font be dumb and get them mixed up eiter or you will wreck the lessson and fail me and my smart lesson

Remember to not let studets cheat in fact you can do it in groups or have them turn their desks so they cant see the other kids paper as he reads and oes the map ....

I change pizza to pasta resterrunt but you can change it back cuz I did not change pizza picture...
